Haas just announced Mazepin is officially out.
Just woke up and saw that… holy shite, didn’t think they’d go as far as sacking Maz too. Guess money talks and without the sponsorship, no reason to keep the worst driver.
Does Rich Energy have a driver in staff?

Don’t like the dude one bit, but feel sorry for him. But lay with dogs and you get fleas.
His dads association with Putin did him in quicker than would have naturally happened.

Not like they have a serious upgrade though. It’d be great to get Hulk in their to get a better measure for Mick.

How much was that sponsorship deal? Can haas plug the gap alone or will they have to get a sponsor asap?

I always thought K Mag wasn’t terrible. Isn’t he available?
That being said would be nice for Haas to get someone who has been exposed to the cars in this new format.

They said last week that they had the funding for this season but you would think they have to pay something back to Uralkali (if they even can with all the sanctions).
They are probably scrambling right now to find a new sponsor and I would think someone would love to be seen as the sponsor who allowed them to keep running after their “stand against Russia”.

The talk is around Gio if they don't go with Pietro. Gio advantage is fewer unknowns and has someone to help Mick along rather than compete, or learn, with him.
Forgot the podcast, but they sort of called out Gene Haas as picking shitty sponsors even though he can fund the team.

Something tells me Mazespin will be fine. He can just buy his own car and drive around the track in Russia.
He'll still come in last.

Is it just bad luck with haas and sponsors or is gene really bad at vetting them?

One was shady AF and everyone knew it.
The other was just Russian. Having a Chinese or Middle Eastern sponsor holds the same risk at this point.
Schwartzman deciding to shift and get an Israeli license could eventually cause him trouble if some Middle Eastern countries decide to flex over the Palestinian conflict one day.

I mean, nothing really to vet with Uki…. They were 100% Russian and when them and your driver, who you took to get the sponsorship, are openly tied to a tyrant, you have to be cautious of the implications.

Yea, the Russian one was unlucky. But they knew the risk.

I am assuming the list for a replacement is:
Pietro Fittipaldi
Antonio Giovinazzi
Kevin Magnussen
Robert Kubica
Callum Ilott
I really think it would be wise for Haas to have someone experienced next to Mick, especially considering the whole "your seat is misaligned" thing that came up last year. Gio makes the most sense because Ferrari probably has money to blow with the cost cap, and can put him in a seat to tutor Mick, who I assume they will want to promote in the next few years.

Aston Martin is sponsored by Aramco

I don't think Ferrari/Alfa was ready to give up on Gio either, but the Zhou money is what it was.
If Ferrari is what they have shown the two drivers they have will be locked up. Not sure who they would drop to bring Mick up.

And F1 decided to follow the money to SA last year.
Let’s be honest, F1 as a whole doesn’t give a shite about social causes unless it may hurt their bottom dollar. Pulling the Russian GP is virtue signaling when you still race in the Middle East and China.

Never forget the Bahrain GP when the country was at civil war and Bernie was dead set to host the GP.
