I couldn’t believe they went to the Pitts. But going from that far back to finishing 3rd just shows how much that could’ve payed off, but they were gambling on more cautions/overtime’s/green-white-checkereds. The gamble just didn’t go to their way.

I wonder how big of financial hit Penske took with no 500 today?

Probably a huge one now that he not only owns a race team with multiple cars, but also owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and IndyCar.

Well, Keselowski didn't pit and won, so. Maybe everyone else does pit and Chase falls back, but there was zero chance he was going to win once he pitted.

I've watched these races for decades. In that situation every time the leader stays out everyone else pits.

His only chance would be is if a some of the guys on the tail end of the lead lap stayed out and even then Elliot went from tenth to third in 2 laps.

No for being the top winner in Penske history now. He also now has multiple classic wins, a championship as well.

Guys get paid for what they are doing now and what their future performance looks like.

I was talking specifically IMS he owns IndyCar? I thought he couldn’t own once the split ended even though the George and Hullman’d sold the track

So does The Captain make Kes the offer of a lifetime?

In this day and age, the main factor in whether or not Kes gets a big contract may be whether or not Kes can maintain/bring in major sponsors who will commit to sponsoring a significant number of races.

If Chase takes two, he wins this. Taking 4 was a horrible decision. I couldn’t believe it

For being gifted a race?

30 wins with Roger, another one of the crown jewels, just needs a 500. Roger is going to keep his at Penske for the rest of his career. There's no way he leaves him AND Discount Tire which has been a big sponsor of his all the way through the ranks to Nascar. This was likely the last race for Miller Lite, I'm sure DT will fill that void next year. He's set for the rest of his career.

Discount Tire has filled every spot that Miller Lite has left. They sponsored him all the way up to the NASCAR ranks, they're a Michigan company sponsoring a Michigan driver. They'll fill this race next year, guaranteed.

The entire Hulman and Co. company was sold to Penske Entertainment Corp., so that is how he acquired IMS and IndyCar.

I didn’t know about the series, so thank you

Roger owns IMS Michigan and the teams in 4 different series now?

I'm just saying, keeping a major sponsors on board to sponsor most races is the key to keeping your seat these days. And ability to keep sponsors will certainly be a part of the discussion when Kes negotiates a new deal. So far he has continued to keep/attract the needed sponsors, so he will probably have that part of it covered when negotiations take place.

Oh absolutely - if Roger wasn't saddled with a hundred different sponsors that are also customers for his main logistics company, I'm convinced DT would be a full time 100% sponsor of Brad. But, he has to keep Autotrader, Wurth, etc happy.

Edit - I'm surprised he hasn't managed to wrangle Verizon back into the fold for sponsorship since they sponsor his Indy cars. Before they got bought out, Altell was the big sponsor of the 12 for Newman. I thought for sure that Blaney was going to be the Verizon sponsored driver.

Saw that, didn't cost me that much but definitely left a dent. Had Chase won, does Johnson's car get inspected for 3rd place? I thought it was the 1st, 2nd and randoom draw for inspection.
