Jeter might be the only inductee.

Well, only one through the BBWAA ballots.

So explain to me again how Chone Figgins and Nate McLouth came to be on a Hall of Fame ballot?

I don't know what the qualifications are beyond playing for 10 years, but I know that's one of the qualifications.

Everyone who plays for 10+ seasons is eligible to be on the ballot 5 years after retiring.

If they can't get 5% of the vote, and I think only Jeter, Abreu, Giambi, and Lee have a shot at that, then they drop off.

They played in at least one game for a decade. That’s the criteria.

I think its a committee now that screens them, but that is the general rule of thumb and 5 years from last game.

There is, but I think they only need 2 nominations, and there's no limit, so pretty much everyone eligible gets to be on the ballot.

Some of them even get a pity vote or two from the local writers... which is a shame because those are votes that should be going to someone legitimately worthy.

Can't wait to see Jeter get first ballot HOF and Rolen get ~22% of the vote with almost identical WAR numbers and both infielders.

you would think with 10 slots they wouldn't need it, but these assholes keep letting the ballot clog up. It's not a pity vote, its usually a nod from a local sportwriter. I like it actually.

That's what I meant. I don't have a problem with it, other than it's not fixing the backlog of legit candidates.

The only thing that's going to help that is writer's getting off of their high horse and pushing guys through.

Over the next 3 ballots, there is only likely 3 HOF candidates (Arod, Ortiz, Beltran) and none next year, so hopefully it clears out.

I can't possibly wrap my head around Scott Rolen, not getting in yet, much less have less than 20%.

Fun fact, Mark Buehrle (eligible next year) has a higher career WAR than Ortiz. He might get enough votes to stay on the ballot, but he's never getting in.

I wonder if A-Rod is going to have a shot at it. I think he's a no-doubter, but if they refuse to put guys like Bonds and Clemens in, then it doesn't bode well for A-Rod.
