Cubs aren’t gonna blow up the team right now when they are still in contention.

Schwarber might be an AL fit, but he is about to get real expensive, real quick.

Marcell Ozuna was packing a bag for Memphis in the clubhouse postgame. He has a final check with the doctor tomorrow and assuming all goes well he’ll start a rehab Tuesday. Could be back in the #stlcards lineup for Oakland/LA.

Well that would be a couple weeks sooner than expected. And then however long for him to get back in rhythm.

Also, this may be it for Marp.

After an 0-4 tonight, Matt Carpenter is now 0-16 with 6 K on his rehab assignment, split between Memphis and Springfield. Not what the #stlcards wanted to see.

Man I just wish he could field better, he walks a lot and he'll end the year with over 30 homers. Forget the BA that's an overrated stat these days. But I can tell you he's cost the Cubs two games this year with his fielding that I can remember. But he's one more than that with his bat including yesterday.

Such a treasure having the best bullpen in the league. Birds take game 1 on a Goldy HR.

Yeah, one of about 5 head scratchers from Joe last night. He really seems to be losing his grip.

But last night was not on him as much as some have been. Ultimately one run ain't ever gonna cut it.

Yeah someone batting first other than Garcia may have helped, giving a slumping player the opportunity to hit the most not very smart. But KB ain't got a hit in the last 3 games and is swinging at garbage. Rizzo has cooled off and outside of J-Hey nobody seemed to be able to hit last night. Frustrating.

Trade deadline is over and no one did anything basically.

I'm fine with that, let the 3 teams battle it out until the end.

Carl Edwards JR. Traded. That string bean was good when he was good but awful when he wasn't

Cubs just do a shitty job of situational hitting. I mean, frick trying to move a runner, let me strike out trying to hit a HR.

It's highly entertaining watching some of these fans melt though. Seeing plenty of Cards/Cubs/Brewers fans all repeating the same thing.

It's the right move for all 3 teams though. None are WS contenders, no big move was making any of them WS contenders. Let the 3 teams battle it out for the division as constructed.

Schwarber and Tyler Oneil were made for the AL. Both would hit 25-30 hr easily in many of those band boxes.

Quite the offensive show tonight, about 45 RISP stranded.

It's quite literally Goldy+Mikolas vs the putrid Cubs offense+Hendricks.

Can I get that 4 hours of my life back...

Cubs finally win a game on the road against a division rival. Seems like it's been quite a while.

This division is going to go down to the wire isn't it?

shite.

Probably, did you see how bad that game was? You can't watch that game and think either of those teams are any good. It's such mediocre baseball with a couple small flashes from someone here and there to win a close game.

Unless Ozuna's return in the next week provides a big spark and he gets back on track quickly it will come down to the final series of the year most likely, at Busch for 3 to end the season.

It was a bad game. Both teams couldn't hit for shite with runners in scoring position. Kimbrel almost blew a save.

One of the teams will catch fire in September. Watch it be the Reds. Honestly, I would laugh my arse off. There are legions of Cubs fans already calling for Maddon's head on a pike and wanting him replaced by Joe Girardi. The old saying goes: be careful what you wish for...

It's been that way the last 3 years and they still have managed 92 and 95 wins.

But this year is different in that the defense and baserunning has been gawd awful. And we saw it again last night, a brainless baserunning blunder by Contreras a throwing error by Baez and a tap-tap late throw by KB that extended an inning unnecessarily. Not to mention the bullpen has been a complete cluster - and is as bad as it's been in this good stretch.

Kimbrel got to the point last night where he quit throwing his fastball cause the bottom of the Cards lineup was smashing it. he's had maybe 2 clean innings in his 10-11 appearances this year.

Yet the Cubs are still tied for the lead - somehow.
