I saw one for the Giro back in May, but I wasn't sure how much talk there's been about the TDF.

Notes for 2018:

Stage 3 team time trial returns (welcome addition for me)
Stage 9 has 21.7 km of cobblestone streets
Stage 11 altitude finish at La Rosière for first time ever
Stage 12 altitude finish at Alpe D'Huez
Stage 17 altitude finish at Saint-Lary-Soulan - stage is only 65 km, shortest normal stage of the last 30 years
Stage 20 individual time trial

2018 Betting Favorites:

Chris Froome 2/1
Richie Porte 4/1
Nairo Quintana 8/1
Mikel Landa 10/1
Vincenzo Nibaldi 10/1
Adam Yates 25/1

Is it still on nbc sports ? I think their coverage of it is one of the best things in all of US broadcasting.

Sure is!
And agree, really wish they had the rights to the FIFA World Cup instead of Fox

Stage 17 has a shite ton of climbing for 40 something miles of racing. Last two climbs are real cow roads and not on some maps. Road maps we talking here...French authorities probably don’t want tourist on them I’m guessing. Might be explosive as hell. Don’t like saying this but Froome ftw.

Haven't kept up with it lately, but what's the news on his Salbutamol case?

Yes, a lot of stages are free. I've purchased their sports gold the pas couple of years; it's cheap and great.

Looks like he’ll race. They may have to take it away after the fact. Which will suck again for a sport with little credibility already...

Stage 9 has to scare the hell out of anyone with GC aspersions. This stage is not their friend. Froome and The shark might be ok, but who knows.

Wasn’t it the cobbles in a driving rain storm that just exploded a TdF a few years ago? I know Contador went out and thought Froome crashed

I believe you’re correct. I certainly remember Froome abandoning the race that day. Also recall back in the day little skinny Andy hanging on to Cancellara and gaining time. His brother Frank broke his shoulder that day as well. Go figure...

Last I heard the Froome saga was still unresolved. Pretty ridiculous.

I know these will never happen but I would love to see the following

Team Time Trial or Individiual trial up one of the classic mountains and end it with a descent

Finish doing a lap in a velodrome. They did a stadium finish and it was amazing

Do a true type pursuit for a team time trial. Leader starts first to the last team

Would not be surprised to see Porte and a Froome put a minute + on everyone else with the stage three TTT. Quintana and Nibali both have teams that flat out suck at those.

Tom Dumoulin should be up there.

This is just my opinion and means nothing but there’s a reason Tom is not marked...I get that the giro has been good for him. It’s a great accomplishment to win and come second this year. It’s not the tour and a out of shape Froome beat him this year. The ttt and TT are not going to be to his advantage and he will get crushed in the Pyrenees. Having said that, I hope he can hang! Have serious doubts about him holding up with the teams at the tour and pace of the tour.

Dumoulin is 14/1.

I cut off at 10/1 but included Yates because he's my outside pick for a podium finish. Think he wins 1 of the 3 altitude finishes too - salty competitor and a good climber.

Valverde at 25/1 is another who could sneak onto the podium, old man that he is.

But he absolutely collapsed in the Giro. I'm not sure I've ever seen a rider be so dominant for half a tour and then totally lose his form.

And I'm not saying Dumoulin beats Froome. But Dumoulin is a consistent rider no matter the terrain. Now whether he can recover from the Giro and have a good TdF is a good question.

This is a good post stache and I hope I’m so wrong on TD. I worry he’s going to be defending against really strong teams alone and maybe he can use other for help, but he’s going to be lonely a lot. Here’s to a good tour.
Edit for my grammar.

Oh it could absolutely be a shitshow, but I find myself stanning for my favorites every July.

I talked myself into an Ivan Basso victory about 4 years in a row.
