That and the fact Sean Payton won't be calling plays this year.

FWIW Carmichael called plays throughout our offensive dismantling of the NFL last season. Having SP out of gameplanning with Brees and Carmichael is what scares me the most...althooough if I know Payton...

For the Falcons, it wasn't about fixing anything player wise. It was about bringing back the talent that were going to hit free agency, and maintaining continuity within the players.

Our additions came in the coaching staff. No longer will we run a R2P2 offense (Run, Run, Pass, Punt). Turner, I am going to guess will not have more than 200 carries this season because Koetter likes to throw a bit more.

On the defensive side of the ball, I would much rather have John Abraham at DE than Kroy Beirmann or Lawrence Sidbury. Again, our upgrade here is DC Mike Nolan. He will have more exotic looks in his blitz packages. We will run more than just the standard 4-3 soft zone coverage plays that BVG ran. We will be more aggressive.

The Falcons are just as hungry as the Saints are. they've been bounced in the first round they've played in, in back to back seasons. We want to get over that hump and win our first playoff game.

I've got nothing but respect for Drew Brees. The man is arguably the best QB in the league and deserves to be paid as such. Your running game is pretty shaky. Darren Sproles did a magnificent job last year of being the X factor that he was brought in to be. You are correct, your offense will be just as efficient as it was last year. However, defense wins championships. That is where the Saints will falter. Vilma, I believe is looking at least an 8 game suspension if not more for bein the "ring leader" amongst players. Curtis Lofton can run his mouth all he wants to about the team only scoring 2 points in the playoff loss to the Giants, however he was the one getting destroyed across the middle in the Giants passing attack. He is a great tackler and has a nack for stopping the run, but when word came out that he was a two down back, it wasn't some sort of dirty rumor. It was the truth, and y'all will find out the hard way.

That sure is a huge go.

I just remember seeing well called games when Sean Payton called the plays, but every now and then some weird arse trick play that never. never worked thrown in there for good measure.

You lost your offensive coordinator (Payton). That was a HUGE part of your winning was the fact that he and Brees were able to dissect teams together. He is not allowed to have any sort of contact what so ever with anyone in the NFL, and I can assure you that he is not stupid enough to attempt it. If he does, he could be banned from the game forever. Vitt is gone for 6 games, so who is going to call the plays on offense? The Saints have a TON of issues on the offensive side of the ball that could prevent them from being the juggernaut that they have been.

Running game is far from.shaky. saints were actually one of the top run teams last year. I'm really not worried about Vilma being out. He isn't close to being what he once was.

we have been in the top 10 in the nfl in rushing 2 of the past 3 years (and actually 3 spots ahead of the Falcons a run first team last year) in addition to having a top 3 passing offense...don't listen to espn so much

Which is why Chamberlain will likely be the 3rd down MLB...but I suppose both are better than a "no" down LB in Lofa Tatupu

You are lying to yourself if you dont think that Payton had his hands in the offensive scheming.

oh he did for sure...but it was a 3 guy deal in the meetings...Gruden would gush over it when they showed Brees, Payton, and Carmichael developing the game plan on film. It will hurt but it hurts A HELL of a lot less with one of the top 3 smartest qbs in the game who meticulously prepares and has worked with Payton (and Carmichael) for the past few seasons. I really think Brees will see this a challenge to elevate his game even higher to something that approaches the level of Peyton in terms of the cerebral QB.

Of course he did but his system has been in place for 6 years. Most of the offensive coaches and players know how things are done.

I think Brees is the best QB in the NFL. There is almost no denying that (I say almost because Packers fans would cry like girls if they read that).

I just think that everything that is happening with the defense, and the unknown of what kind of player suspensions that will be dished out leaves the door wide open for a bad defensive year for you guys.

Will smith and Jonathan Vilma being suspended won't hurt that much. Trust me.

we'll all have a better idea hopefully soon...I think Spagnuolo will be a superdome sized upgrade over Williams though

It will be nice to actually have our safeties play regularly as opposed to having to cover the entire offense due to an 8 man blitz on 3rd and 15

Well that's at least a -24 point differential as long as he is on the field.
