A&M was very much in the games against FSU and Texas. Hell, UT stole that game at the end.

If I recall Ohio State jumped on A&M quickly in New Orleans and kind of put it on cruise control.

It was a huge bounceback for the Buckeyes after their previous Sugar Bowl appearance, the Shane Falco disaster versus Florida State.

It got nuked off of YouTube.

Not really fertile recruiting ground. Back in their prime they were recruiting from all over the country. I think they had players from like 15 different states.

Georgia was our home state in the 90s, as were the Carolinas.

Phil pulled elite kroots from coast to coast though

The two-headed monster of Joe Germaine and Stanley Jackson was awful in that game. I think FSU was a better team. Their only loss was a classic in The Swamp. They win that game, and I believe they go to the Orange Bowl to play Nebraska, as per the Alliance rules. You would have had 3 undefeated teams (NU, Mich, and FSU) heading into bowl season.

OSU was damn good. When your 3 losses are to #2 Penn State on the road, #1 Michigan on the road, and #4 FSU in New Orleans, there’s no shame.

With RC's help, of course, after A&M opened with a TD. Got conservative against a better team and hoped his defense and special teams would save the day. Same old shite.

Even with all the bad losses to the horns that followed, that one still stings the most for me. Stupid prevent defense erased a great comeback and kept A&M from finishing as a top ten team despite clearly being one.

UT-OSU not happening was a letdown, just like no USC-Auburn in '04.

Looking back, the Big Ten was stacked in '98, yet somehow no member had a shot at the title in bowl season. Reminiscent of the SEC in the following decade before the natty streak began.
