Jim Joyce was the home plate umpire the following day. Galarraga brought out the lineup card before the game. You can see where Joyce was emotional about what happened. Galarraga was pure class. LINK
There's no doubt in my mind that this is what finally brought replay into the game. MLB should award Galarraga his perfect game.
2 years later, Joyce was credited with saving the life of an Arizona Diamondbacks employee who was having cardiac arrest. He performed CPR on her until paramedics arrived. LINK

Looking back I actually don’t think Galarraga lost anything.
He knows he accomplished a PG. like he did it. It happened. Everyone knows it an agrees.
Also, it’s arguably the 2nd most famous “perfect game” in baseball history.
Everyone has affection for him. And he had an opportunity to come out looking like a good baseball player and great dude.
Arguably more likely to “go down in history” the way it happened.

I’d imagine those moments those celebrating on the field and clubhouse with your family and teammates are the most memorable part. He never got that

Billy Martin would have buried Joyce up to his neck in dirt soccer style.

But he got the entire world advocating on his behalf and getting behind him. His approval rating was about as high as it could be

The weirdest part of it all to me is that it wasn’t close. And even it was close, you call him out. You know what’s on the line. You call the out and even if you got it wrong by a millimeter, no one cares.

It sucks. but it is what it is. There was no way to undo it once it was done.
sure there was.
all they had to say was for the good of the game we are fixing this clear error.
not that hard.
