Yes, but that isn't what you said. You said that bitcoin was just a currency.

Why do you refuse to backup your claims and answer questions?
Because all you are making is emotional appeals.
You want an answer as to why I think decentralization will make the world a better place? Because I believe it will lead to more liberty.
And I don't care about to your emotional appeals.
And FWIW, I have been on this site for at least a year and a half explaining bitcoin and related technologies. But y'all just keep asking the same old dumb questions while never retaining any knowledge.

No, bitcoin is a global transaction network with a public ledger.

They are derivative layers of bitcoins. The bitcoins are proofs of ownership. Like I said, public ledger of ownership.
And once you spend them, its gone.

How?

No, bitcoin is a global transaction network with a public ledger.
Then why do you refer to it as Bitcoin and state its worth over and over?

Why would you spend .00000001 BTCs that hold the ownership of your home?
Posted on 2/6/14 at 6:27 pm to joshnorris14
From their site:
"This way, Bitcoin wallets can calculate their spendable balance and new transactions can be verified to be spending bitcoins that are actually owned by the spender. "

If you want to ask questions about how the technology works, I really don't mind that.
But don't sit here and opine on the technology when you don't understand it.

Well i have asked many questions and you and wiki dance around them.
If you use bitcoin as a currency and spend it on a item, what more is there? If I use it to buy gum, that coin is gone but the transaction history is there. What more is it I have?
Further, I was specific on the value of bitcoin as a currency.
I asked questions as to why the other side is beneficial to the world..... This is what you and wiki have failed to answer.
Here from the site: LINK
"What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin is a consensus network that enables a new payment system and a completely digital money. It is the first decentralized peer-to-peer payment network that is powered by its users with no central authority or middlemen. From a user perspective, Bitcoin is pretty much like cash for the Internet. Bitcoin can also be seen as the most prominent triple entry bookkeeping system in existence."
This is from there site. Why is this important that we all convert?

Rules don't mean much if others undermine their use. You know I'm not against this, but don't act like your new world will not have dictators if it came to be.

How are changes made to the protocol? Whoever can effect changes has control. Why is anyone researching improvements to Bitcoin if changes can't be made? Even Gavin Andresen admits Bitcoin has undergone changes. How were they made? Bitcoin Is Not Broken

I don't feel like starting a new thread so I will just stick this here.
The btc-e exchange website, which is headquartered in Moscow, Russia, is saying the government of Russia ruled today that it is illegal to own and use bitcoin within Russia. I can't find any news articles verifying that statement.
BTC prices are falling fast right now on btc-e, bitstamp and MtGox. 30 day low prices have been approached within the last 30 minutes.

And to combat this you make assertion on things you don't understand?

You wouldn't use your colored coin in these transactions.

Decentralized stock exchanges, smart contracts, digital law, et cetra. It cuts the middle man out of so many things. It lowers the barrier of entry and it reverts human action to more productive sectors.

Are you saying this contradicts what Wiki and I have said?

It's not important that you convert. This will be the future whether you think it will be or not.

They can't effectively undermine the rules. They'll create a fork that is not followed. Bitcoin remains.

I've been waiting for prices to dip below $700 for a few weeks now, it's about damn time.

Care to explain this historic event? LINK What are these different versions of the software they are referring to? How did those changes get made? That sure sounds to me like changes made by central controllers.

Get your money ready. It just hit a new 30 day low on btc-e and it's only $6 away from a new low on bitstamp.

Intentionally creating a fork is not "undermining" the rules, first off.
The entire premise of people inside the bitcoin network sabotaging the bitcoin network would be akin to an executive purposefully sabotaging his company. It simply does not make sense and would require someone to act against their interests.
quote:
Care to explain this historic event?
It was an accidental fork.
quote:
What are these different versions of the software they are referring to?
The Bitcoin qt client is what is being referred to. The current version of the client is 0.8.6 (0.9.0 should be released anyday). It's a wallet client that is used to read the blockchain. It was an error in programming that caused the hard fork.
quote:
How did those changes get made?
Bitcoin.org releases an open source client that they periodically update to fix issues and add features.

If you know how open source technology works you would understand why what you are asserting is absurd.
Anyone can go to github and view the source code, copy the source code, edit the source code, and release the source code.
If you are interested in the source code: LINK

He's referring to some outside entity purposefully sabatoging the btc network because they feel threatened by it. Damn, josh, take a smart pill!Posted on 2/6/14 at 9:12 pm to joshnorris14
