I've heard that regulators were encouraging Whitney to find a buyer.
Now THAT makes a lot of sense!

I sure hope Hancock included that into the price they are paying. It could turn into a black hole for a long time if they didn't.

And Hancock will surrender the national charter and continue to operate under state charters.

Also, it appears Hancock is not a member of the Federal Reserve. At least I can't find it on their website after a quick search.

Whitney, of course, is required to be a FRB member since they have a national bank charter.

I wonder if Hancock will drop the membership or transfer the share into its name?

I found it pretty funny that some of the local media reported this as just a merger (no mention of a buyout) and that two local banks merged to make both stronger.

HAHA BS

I work at a bank (not hancock or whitney) near the nola/jp line on veterans. There is a hancock and a whitney here within 150 yards of one another. The whitney is going BYE BYE.

The BR paper did not mention the issue of Whitney keeping its name in the La. market. I'm wondering if that was just a propaganda line given to Whitney employees to help keep their morale up.

Pics of me. My email address. Anything else to add to your stalker's smorgasbord? Maybe Santa will just cut to the chase and bring you that blowup doll of me you've been pining for?

Merry Christmas, JT.

ETA: BTW, you were mentioned in my thread on the O-T. I didn't bring up your name, for the record. I'll try to alert you whenever I see you mentioned in a thread.

I wish that were the case, but it isn't. Unless the propaganda was extended beyond Whitney employees to include Hancock employees, the official press release, news outlets in Mississippi, etc.

Hancock (holding company) moving corporate HQ to New Orleans.

LA and TX will become Whitney. Everything else will become Hancock.

Hancock will prob move Whitney under its LA state charter and be regulated by the state and FDIC for various reasons.

Looks like a huge win for LA in many respects.

We end up with a bank with ~$20B in assets "headquartered" in the state? If nothing else it removes the uncertainty surrounding Whitney and does it in the best possible way, by keeping it a regional bank instead of a bunch of national branches.

The " " could be appropriate, as it may just be that in name only.

My commercial banker at Whitney here in Lafayette sent out an email last week about it, then quickly retracted it. His email said Whitney would continue to use the Whitney name in Louisiana. I'm not sure if that is still the case.

It may be, I guess that remains to be seen. Regardless, its still a best-case scenario for Louisiana regarding Whitney (sans maybe Iberia buying them).

Iberia was talking but Whitney was not listening.

All public information points to Whitney not really having a choice of whether they wanted to listen or not. Hancock must've just made a better offer.

Again...Whitney did not listen to Iberia as it already had Hancock.
