The my social security website is a site that states your earnings each year. I was told to check each year that your earnings have been reported correctly. Does anyone do this? I’m 27, but the site says you can only dispute reported salary for three years after it is recorded. That would make me think it’s a good idea to check the site each year regardless of age.

It takes about 3 minutes a year, what is there to even think about.

Unfortunately this is probably going to be true. Do not plan your retirement around SS. If it happens to be there then great, but it's not likely.

If I ever get a dime out of SS it will be a miracle.

Just wait until they change the tax rules on IRA’s and 401k’s an penalize people that actually saved money instead of living in the moment.

I wish the government would allow people to opt out of social security if they want to take full responsibility for their own retirement. I'm 40 years old and I absolutely hate the thought of continuously pumping my hard earned money into to something I will likely not be able to realize whenever I'm ready to retire.

I'm not an OT baller but I'm kinda pissed knowing I put 5 grand into SSec this year and I will never see it.

I hate to see how much you real ballers put into.

Although if memory serves me correctly there is a cap no?

None goes in after first $118,500. Bet that changes before long.

By the end of this year, I would have paid about $6,500 towards social security. If I was allowed to use that money to add to my 401k on top of what I already contribute, I would project to have close to $4M by the time I retire.

Is this part of the supposed new tax plan? I don't follow politics and haven't reviewed in detail, but that would be ridiculous considering us younger folks will never get SSN anyway (due to future lack of funding and/or means testing). Plus the mid-year "pay raise" is always nice.
