You're trying to say that someone who makes 400K in LA isn't upper class?
Mondavi is upper class. Bartles and James are middle class. Franzia...well, he is just a douche.

I think you're confusing upper class with elite status
If you're in the top 1.5% of wage earners, you're upper class. Period.
I'm starting to think you're just arguing to piss me off because I know you're not this stupid.

No, but he's from New Orleans.
Pretty typical.

Maybe you should ask some of the "experts" on the money board what they think.

Forget the freaking bell curve, Powerman. This isn't just about income. It is also about power and influence, and/or being born wealthy.

In the United States the upper class is estimated to constitute roughly 5% of the population. It consists of those with great influence over society and its institution who derive their income from wealth rather than salaries. CEOs, heirs to fortunes, successful venture capitalists as well as celebrities are considered members of this class by contemporary sociologists such as James Henslin or Dennis Gilbert. There tends to be strong sense of kin among the members of this class who are often connected to a global elite of the powerful and rich. There may be prestige differences between different upper class households such as those between Bruce Willis and Bill Clinton with the latter having greater social standing than the former. Yet, all members of this class are so influential and wealthy as to be considered members of the upper class.

I have a good friend who makes $700k, his dad is a doctor too, but he wouldn't consider himself 'upperclass'. He says, "I'm rich bitch" but that's just because he can afford any car he wants. He knows his kids will have to earn their own money. He might pay $50k/yr to send his son to college, like his dad did, but he'll let them figure it out on their own after that.
I have another friend who is 'upperclass'. Even though he only lives a few blocks from the first friend, his situation is vastly different. His son is 15 months old, and has more wealth that friend one will have at retirement.
That's just the way it works. Great jobs are one thing, but that doesn't qualify for certian perks. The upperclass friend is a member to a hunting club that money can't get you into. That's upperclass.

And you're the one telling me that people who are well into the top 1.5% aren't upper class
What did you want me to try this page for other than to prove that you weren't only wrong, but you were more wrong than you originally thought?

So he can afford to pay 50K a year to send his kid to college and he's not upper class?

Seriously, you're a fricking idiot

Only if they're in Comus.

I think that percentage is wrong, and doesn't correlate with the jist of the text, which backs what me and others are saying.
Chicken - 2
Powerman - 0

The jist of that text refers to the elite, not upper class
I can't believe you're actually this stupid

Powerman, you are losing it. Upper Class = Elite.
Don't worry, dude...we have a place for you in the middle class.

I see Chicken's point. My brother-in-law recently sold his his company for eight figures. But they don't think they are upperclass.
However, as much as it might pain me to do this, I agree with Powerman. If you're in the top 1.5% of income, you are in the upperclass. Hell, Chicken's article talks about the top 5%.
I think one can differentiate between trust fund babies and the upper class. They are not co-extensive.

That is a Wikipedia page, so they might have meant to say .5% for all I know. But the point of the passage was that upper class equals elite.
James Henslin and Dennis Gilbert and Chicken - 1
Powerman and just me - 0
