My wife and I are both RNs and both of us work full-time. We are not poor but we both have to work full-time...no choice. We don't own credit cards but still have debt. A better question would be income verses debt.
People who presumeably have a comfortable income may not always be as comfortable as they seem from the outside. They could be working slaves to their banks.
BTW..in our poor little state, we would definitely be considered upper income.
Please, no jokes about about the paper-boy being a tycoon in MS! I've heard them all!

Also...Chicken is trying to tell us that people who make 20 times the median income in LA are still middle class
As far as economic class goes, that's an absurd statement.

This thread is the first time I have ever seen economic class defined solely on one's income level.
I have seen Economic class used to group professions and types of jobs together, but have only seen social classes used to group people by many factors including income, net worth, political influence, etc.
Lower, middle, and upper are all social classes. You are just making shite up.

And since we're morons for confusing income distribution with class, wouldn't that also make you a moron when you tried to come up with a dollar figure yourself?

Well the thread was asking that particular question
Income level is generally the most relevant factor in determining wealth.

Being that it is so cut and dry, what is the salary cut off for upper class?

According to this picture, the top 1% would put you in the upper class.
That would be in the ballpark of 350K a year but that's really just an estimate. I don't that you can define it with such clear break points.
I need to get to class. We'll resume this later

So, someone that makes $300,000 is upper middle, but the guy that makes $350,000 is upper?
Right....
Right....

I've known millionaires that owned titty bars and spent most of their waking hours there...where does that put them socially as far as class? Is there a titty afternoon tea at the country club? Is there a benefit for titty bar dancers that have had a mascectomy and need supplemental income? Would even one politician attend?
Class is a totally separate issue from income. I have no class so I know, dammit!

I would attend the benefit.

So Chicken according to that chart, you're in upper middle class huh?

Ok. Let's say your dad is a multi millionaire. You do nothing but mooch off of him. You've never worked don't make money, nada. You're 25.
Your income since you've been born. $0.
Are you still living in a matter that's considered upper class? You go to the nicest parties. You drive the nicest car. You went to the best school in NY.
What's your income?

karma, just get him to tell us what the salary cutoff is for the upper class...after all, the question was "what salary ranges make up the middle class and upper class in louisiana?"
