Thoughts on Southern Company (SO)

I have a small percentage of retirement money in SO for a number of years. The stock dividend hovers around 4% with current yield based on a month or so of price decline nudging 4.3 percent.
I am interested in opinions about this stock. I noted that it is currently at year 23 of increased dividends. In a couple of years I anticipate it going up when it becomes classified as a dividend aristocrat (25 years or more of increased dividends) I assume when that happens it will cause the aristocrat tracking funds to add it to their portfolios and may increase its demand. However, I am not sure how significant of an impact this might have.
My plan is to add to this position largely as a way of building up income potential during retirement and drawing off earnings in 10 years and beyond. It is currently nearing a 12 month low and I am also guessing with high interest options available the steady dividend is a bit out of favor which might make it a good time to accumulate. Thoughts?

It is a good company with longevity and a new nuclear plant.
If I had some extra $$$$, I’d be buying now as it is testing its lows from Feb 22. It may take out the Nov 21 low around $62.

I own some. Solid company with good dividend. Has been hammered recently along with the other utilities. Probably will never give you huge gains.

The utility sector is getting hit hard right now. I already own a few utility stocks and watching them drop almost daily. I'm going to let the dust settle but have been nibbling on a few shares on the way down. I'm guessing we going down some more SO included. Could see this in the low 50's in the next few months. This is where you load up.

Assume the utilities are getting hit hard because the safer bond play is offering similar if not better yields?

the safer bond play
Safer is debatable.
Won’t last forever but cash/money markets have been king for the last few months.

Utility companies require large cap ex to be able to operate / grow - which in a rising rate environment can deteriorate financial performance.
