Should I sell my 301 share of Exxon?

Bought in at $33. It's sitting around $43.
Considering selling and buying a mix of Apple, Microsoft, Fastly, and Facebook.

Doesn't Exxon have pretty good dividends?

In the next 2 years, do you think you make more with thise other companies who are on the forefront of emerging markets or with a company that is 90% in a dying market

Kind of a loaded question....

Not enough details to answer the question.
Seems like you would be selling low and buying high though

Well, I wouldn't be losing any money on the Exxon sell. But I guess I'd be buying on the higher end of the other stocks....basically just be taking my earnings from Exxon and buy something else.

What are the dividends like on the other stocks? The amount of shares you have would provide what, roughly 250 bucks a quarter? Why not just roll the the dividends and use that money to buy other stocks every QTR, I don’t see you losing money on XOM where you bought in at.

Is this stock held in a tax advantaged account?
Have you held the XOM shares more than a
year?
What % of your portfolio is this holding?
Did you reinvest the dividends?

Sorry if I was stating the obvious *shrugs*

If he got the @XOM stock at 33, he hasn’t been holding for a year.
I don’t think fsly and apple are stocks at peak. Just getting started.
There are some articles predicting a 190 per barrel oil for 2025 based on the pendulum swing from this hard down cycle. If that happens, @XOM may be worth the hold if you want that long of a hold

Great questions, especially the one that's underlined.

That was a genuine thank you....haha

It's the majority of my portfolio.
301 shares XOM
2 shares Amazaon
5 shares apple
5 shares microsoft
46 shares Fastly

301 XOM brings $262 in dividends quarterly.
Re-invest them & keep it for a long Hold. That’s better than any interest rate you’ll find as long as they keep paying the dividend
I don’t see any way that this can’t be a win.
Low risk, safe returns, now explosive growth but keep it slow & steady.

here is my advice whether it works for you I do not know.
you own Exxon Mobil at a good price and as others have noted it pays a nice dividend (in your case 1000 bucks a year).
forget you own it, leave it alone.
figure out a way to put additional funds into the market, and increase your positions in the other stocks you own which are all good places to be. on top of your reinvested dividends you would be well on your way to building something nice

Just sell Exxon and buy Apple and in 5 years you will thank me..

Can XOM maintain the dividend at $40/barrel oil? I genuinely don’t know the answer to this but Shell just cut their dividend so the majors are not impervious it seems.
The FAANGs are at all-time highs but in a zero interest rate environment, we will continue to see people pay up for growth. Based on this, I don’t know what is slowing them down. Personally I wouldn’t have the balls to buy this high, but eventually earnings will catch up to valuations so if you have enough time, it’ll work out. AMZN will be a $2T company, of that I have no doubt.
