Retirement, for me, will involve ZERO guilt or worry about money. That means things like not having to price shop for almost any good or service
You want to work hard and save so you can piss off good habits and spend carefree?

The funny thing is you’d need a lot more than 10 million to live the lifestyle he put in his post.

To each there own but I’d rather work 10 years less.

Oh it’s just a troll. Carry on then.
It's telling that you think enjoying the fruits of one's labors in a truly liberating way is "trolling".

quote:I want to have enough money so I spend close to 0% of my time caring about things like the price of gas or plane tickets. I'm a high-earner now, but getting later in my career. I am routinely amazed at how much brain damage (even rich and wealthy) people put into caring about small dollar things.
You want to work hard and save so you can piss off good habits and spend carefree?
And how are you portraying "spend carefree" as something negative? That's virtually the definition of freedom itself. So I guess my answer is, yes, I want to work hard so I have freedom.

quote:Probably not, but I did say AT LEAST in my post. It depends on where you live. Where I live, I need more than that. For some off the grid type of deal in rural Mississippi? Probably less.
The funny thing is you’d need a lot more than 10 million to live the lifestyle he put in his post.
But put some numbers on it. What exactly have I said that's so outlandish? I pretty much live that way now while working. The goal is to build the denominator enough to keep it going when I choose for the income to go away.

My current number is about 5 mil.
I’m saving pretty aggressively. It would take me another 8 years to hit 10 mil. So off the top of my head I was off by a couple years.

What does any of this have to do with chartering private jets every year?

Freedom isn't free as they say.
You be you.
I'm just laughing at the discipline needed to save so you can reach a point to flaunt being undisciplined.

I agree with you. $10MM is my number for the exact reasons you state.

I can see where you think it's a humorous juxtaposition. But the discipline is to get to the goal.

quote:Yes, I brought it up. Then you accused me of trolling. Then I pointed out the trend of high-net-worth older people rationally spending on exactly this. THEN you asked me what that had to do with private jet travel.

You’re current spend is 20k+ per month, not counting savings?

Anyone here done it? Any tips of so? It is my dream. Or semi-retire (work 2 to 3 days a week) at least anyway. Everything is paid off, no kids, in mid 30s. I'm extremely frugal. Wife (no pics) not so much. I'm thinking if I can save like 60% of my income over the next 10 years I can get this done. Just gotta keep the wifey motivated to continue saving. Trying to convince her to move her 401k contribution up to 15% since we just paid off the house.
I’m 41 and I could probably do it but I won’t. I enjoy working but I may cut back some of my company will let me.

At ease.
You are doing great.
You don't save $10M by being lucky.
And the beauty is that once you earn it, you can spend it any which GD way you choose.
I'm still in the middle of the accumulation phase. You talk about spending money in retirement and my eyes and ears see/hear what it takes to save that amount.

quote:If you get a good paying job early in life, start saving then, take risk, get lucky (or don't get unlucky), the power of compounding interest can get you there. On top of that you can't make any wealth-destroying decisions along the way (divorce, anyone?).
You talk about spending money in retirement and my eyes and ears see/hear what it takes to save that amount.
The problem is most people are uneducated about how to grow wealth at a young age nor have the discipline to play the long game.

You don't use retirement accounts.
You do if thats what is available to you. 85-90% of my net worth is tied up in retirement accounts, even with a paid for home. Call it luck or whatever, but my retirement accounts have done exceptionally well. I'll use whatever method available to draw early from them.
