I know some of you are big credit card guys so maybe I can get some guidance. I already have Chase Freedom Unlimited, 1.5% back on everything. I'm looking to get one more card to increase my total credit available because I am moving in a couple weeks and don't want to get in a bind. It will be paid off monthly in full.

I got an offer for a Bank Americard that gives $150 back after spending $500 and is 1% back on everything, 2% on grocery stores, and 3% on gas. I also found an Amazon card through Chase that comes with a $50 gift card, 1% on everything, 2% on gas and restaurants.

I currently bank with Chase so I think I may lean toward the Amazon card just for ease of use, although the other card may have better incentives.

Does the board have any other suggestions or information on the two cards I have looked at? TIA.

find a big pt bonus if you spend $5000. with moving expenses that should be easy in 3 months. something like chase sapphire that gives you 800k pts for $5000 spent in 3 months

might be worth it to look into the chase business cards

I can send ya a referral if your interested in the chase ink business

Should have been more specific. I am only moving a couple hours so I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the $5000 in 90 days. I want to take advantage of any points I could get for deposits and all of that type stuff, and I need to open another card anyway. I don't think my move will even run me 2k.

What are your top spending categories?

I'd probably look at Chase sapphire preferred, Amex blue cash preferred, or possibly the Citi Costco card if you shop at Costco.

The sapphire is probably the best option to pair with your freedom unl

I'm a young guy, and in Dallas so the essentials (rent, groceries, ect). My main spending category for what rewards I would look for would be restaurants and gas probably. I don't buy a lot of "things" more go hangout at bars and restaurants with friends.

Costco card has 4% cash back on gas, 3% on restaurants and travel, 2% at Costco, and 1% everywhere else.

There's no annual fee other than being a Costco member.

IMO it's a good cash back card.

If you have any float, just prepay Amazon or Groceries.

Amazon: Go to amazon.com and just load up your gift card balance. Counts as a purchase.

Groceries: Go to the grocery store chain and buy their gift card.

Spend these down over time after the 90 day period has ended.

Profit points.

How does Costco make its money?

The chain uses low prices to entice people to pay either $60 for its basic "Gold Star" membership or $120 for an Executive membership, which gives members 2% cash back on eligible purchases until they earn $1,000 back.

Either membership gets people in the door to the warehouse club, but Costco knows that only Executive members are likely to take significant advantage of its low prices.

For me, I recommend this:

6% - Amex Blue Cash - I use this exclusively for 6% back on groceries. Thank heavens Aldi now takes credit cards.

5% - Fort Knox VISA will get you 5% on all gas purchases including at costco.

5% - Amazon store card gets 5% on amazon purchases.

3% - I use Citi Costco card for 3% back at restaurants.

2.5% - USAA Visa for 2.5% cash back on everything UNLIMITED including purchases at costco. Costco's card only gives you 2% at costco.

I just got the Chase Sapphire Preferred. There current deal is 50,000 points if you spend $4000 dollars within the first 3 months. You get 1 point for every purchase and an additional point if that purchase is for dinning or travel. The points can be used for 1% cash back or 1.25% cash back when you book travel through Chase. So the 50,000 points is $500 cash or $625 for travel through Chase.

You can also transfer points from one Chase account to another. So you can use your Unlimited card and get the 1.5% cash back points and then transfer the points to Sapphire to use the 1.25% cash back on travel. So say you spend $5000, you'll get 7500 points or $75. Transfer those points to your Sapphire, you now have 9375 points or $93.75 for travel through Chase. I guess with all this said, if you are looking for a good credit card for travel, then Sapphire would be a good choice.
