Just out of curiosity, in a place like BR or NO, how many money managers/retirement planners do you come across who are CFA charterholders?

I can probably answer that for ya and say not very many. Probably a lot of CFPs though.

The very high end types have them. However, they prefer to be called "asset managers".
There are a couple in my building. The pension funds and foundations employ a handful as well.

At which firms do these asset managers work, for instance, in BR?
It seems even the mega firms who have branches in BR still give jobs to the guys who will go around knocking on doors.
Someone asked me this the other day and it got me thinking. Obviously most of us wouldn't give our money to anyone else, but if you had to give your money to an asset manager (not talking about a fund manager) who would you go with?

I really have nothing to add here, but I just took my 37 inch tv (720p) out of my room and put my 47 inch 3d tv in there instead (which is also my monitor). I realized the other tv was sitting in the living room basically unused, and since I always go to other people's houses and no one really comes over here for any reason, why the frick would I look at the cheaper tv all the time.

When I say "my building", it implies my bank as we are the only tenants.
I honestly don't know anything about asset managers here in BR, but if I were to start looking, I would start with locally owned firms. Those guys are usually the most ambitious and intelligent.
There are a good variety of funds in BR, with Stonehenge VC as well as commonwealth, prescience, and maple leaf hedge funds. If I was looking for overall investment help, I would think an estate lawyer would be be my starting point, then work from there.

I would tend to agree. Those guys can't tolerate customer turnover nearly as well as the large national firms and thus must add as much value as possible relative to each customer. It seems the larger shops prefer to employ the "recruit as many clients as possible" model as opposed to the "add as much value to clients as possible" one.
I'm not necessarily looking for someone to manage my money. I just honestly had to tell my friend I really didn't have a good answer to his question considering he's not fit to manage his account and actually does need someone to look after his money.
A CFA-only local investment management firm could be desirable in a small market like BR or NO. However, you'd have to spend a lot of time and effort educating your potential customer base as to why those 3 letters behind your name make you better suited than the guy without the designation at Merrill Lynch.
In any event, it's a moot point. Managing or working for a fund is the end-game anyway.

I woke up today and said "well at least it Thursday." Then I realized it wasn't. The fricking worst I tell you. Oh and I finally signed up for L2 again after getting my passport. Aside from some weddings in nola, life is about to get pretty shitty for the next 3 months.

Well, it will be nice on Sunday when you think it's Monday.

I try to do an hour or two a day. Considering that means (a) go to work (b) study (c) straight to bed, it's extremely tough.
Bulk of my studying is done on the weekend.

[a] Go to work [b] get something from Whole Foods if I leave before 10/shite food if later [c1] eat, clear gmail news, attempt to read some more stuff but end up spending time on TD [c2] work out [d] sleep. Schedule isn't any different, its just replacing c1 or c2 with CFA books. I just don't think I'll be able to focus hard enough once I leave work and eat. I'm leaning towards taking it easy Friday and then going into the office on Sat/Sun and going to town. There's also 5 other guys in my office taking either L1/2/3, so there's some communal support and/or people to bounce shite off of. Yeah that's definitely what I'm doing.
eta: I also have a wedding in nola the night of the test, so I'll be scheduling that bitch back home and driving in like Wed or something. Gonna get traaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaashed.

Haven't left the office since I went back yesterday evening :jamsession:

Well you did bounce out pretty abruptly there, so I can't say that's all that surprising all things being what they are.
I've gone much longer without sleep under entirely different circumstances but I'd be hysterically delirious by now for sure. Keep doing work.

Got off late tonight, met my friends at walk ons after work, sang karaoke @ mellow, realized how awesome my life used to be.

Time to settle in for the night. I get my occasional taste of IB hours...and the next 3 days will be it.
