Couldn't find the Coinstar/Netflix/Redbox thread we had going a while back, but Coinstar is blowing up right now. Really wish i wasn't forced to sell my shares 4-5 months ago.

How do most of you pick investments for your IRA?

I usually go with the most undervalued at the moment.

ETA: please narrow your question.

As I was walking into the bank this morning, a homeless guy asked me if he could "get some cash".

I said "sure, just come on in", walked him into the lobby and showed him the ATM, then went up the elevators.

How do you determine what ETF or Fund is the most undervalued. You would look at NAV, but where is there a search engine that list funds trading below NAV? Morning star premium?

That's not even on my radar. I don't do much in the ETF space. Trading relative to NAV only is relevant for closed end funds, which I don't trade and I don't think anyone here trades actively.

I consider cost heavily for my buy and hold investments (401k), but for trading, I don't trade funds and I wouldn't recommend anyone starting out to do so. There are just too many variables. You could be right about everything and have the currency go against you because of some governmental policy and get hosed.

I always have a sector in mind that I like from whatever reading I do daily, and then wait to find a company with really good numbers within that sector.

I bought 100,000 shares of statndard oil company (SOCU) the other day. I don't have any basis for my investment, other than the fact that it is well worth the price I paid to be able to drop in casual conversation that I bought 200,000 shares of Standard Oil and troll the hell out of those who don't know any better.

When I told him his boss had me working on another project for 14 hours both Monday and Tuesday and I hadn't started writing it yet, his response was simply "Please get it to me by tonight, thanks." Boomed. 13.5 hrs later, I have eaten a hot pocket and gotten up to pee twice.

Glad I'm GTFO at 4 tomorrow, its about to get miserable up in this bitch for the next 2 months. 1 guy quit + busiest time of year = fml. This would have been an 80er if not for Mardi Gras. Expect that to be the case for the next month, hopefully not longer. They don't pay us enough for that shite.

Welcome to my world. The quicker you admit defeat internally and accept that they own you for next 2-3 years, the easier it becomes.
