I initiated my connection to Gemini with a wire. There are no limits on wires if you feel like taking the time to do so.

My best guess for price disparities is due to the lack of a central exchange.

US stocks are traded via many brokerage sites but they all go through the NYSE, right?

It's not so with Crypto. Gemini is in exchange in itself. So is Poloniex. So is Coinbase.

Again, just my opinion.

Very little ETH action going on right now.

Let's see if Slo's theory holds up. This thing should hit a floor around 6:30, so get your buys in before then. Then we'll HODL and see if it rockets tonight.

So I think the reason why Poloniex has lower prices than other exchanges like Coinbase and Gemini is because you are looking at the ETH and BTC prices in USDT on Polo, while the others are shown in USD.

Although USDT does a fairly good job of pegging to the dollar, it is currently valued around $1.05USD.

That's my observation at least.

Yeah I couldn't fight the temptation anymore. Bought 2 ETH at $189 to go along with my 1 ETH I got at $171 on Monday...hoping the trend you spotted holds and I'm up big by tomorrow morning thanks to South Korea.

Standing by for launch!

I just cashed out at 198.50. Gonna buy again when the next decent dip is. Made a tidy 8% profit after fees.

that makes up a lot of the difference (1.05 * 176.3 is 185.11 so much closer so the 193.11 on CB), so that's probably right (it's 192.96 on Gemini)

When you say 'cashed out' do you mean you converted your crypto back to USD?

Does anyone know what creates a taxable event?

To be honest, I'm gonna have to do more research on the tax implications of all this.

I haven't withdrawn anything to a bank account, so idk if this would qualify. I just sold the ETH that I had when it got to a profit margin I was comfortable with (after missing out on a much better opportunity earlier this afternoon) with the intent of buying back in the near future.

I guess my question would be, are any gains taxable prior to being withdrawn from the exchange?

I have a record of all my transactions, so I'm not concerned about paying if I have to pay or anything, but this is my first foray into this type of trading so I'm not sure.

I think every time you convert into USD, not necessarily when you withdraw to your bank account, it should create a taxable event.

Or at least that's what logic tells me. I've got my USD in my account ready to buy some crypto, but I can't do it just yet because I'm foggy on the tax implications.

This might be one of those rather ask for forgiveness than permission types
