as a son I want to as my dad to spot me for like 10,000 grand and just buy and hodl for 5 years and pay back from earnings or just straight up from losses. Would you do that for your son? lol

Ok so If I got him to gift me 10,000$ and then I went and bought eth on my account and got a seperate hardware wallet and took it all off and locked it away for 5 years but I kept playing with my current stash will I have to pay capital gains tax in 5 years? Like will an accountant be able to seperate the fact that I took all of this bought it and stored away and have only been trading with my stack even though it would be all under one brokerage account.

I wouldn't be actively trading it would be locked up in a bank somewhere. I will have used my active trading account to purchase the large amount but as soon as I get it I will transfer it to a hardware wallet.
I will trade with the stack of eth that I currently possess but not that one big lump sump.
Does that change anything ?

The only thing you get taxed on is capital gains. So just what you convert to fiat. If the stash sits untouched you wouldn't be taxed on it as STCG

As of this moment I am pissed at CB. They told me from the start (last Monday) that 5/30/17 would be the day my ETH shows up in the wallet. I'm still waiting on those 14.3 ETH to show up and they still haven't. I've sent several messages to their "customer support".
I've done the same with Gemini and they are still "verifying my identity". I got the message that they have a lot of IDs to process but still nothing in terms of being able to participate. If this dips below 200 before I can sell on CB I'm going to be very irritated.
