because it crashed to $100 ? lol
it's still way below its all time high
you're the exact pumper I'm talking about.
you: "buy alts because it will be ferocious"
me: "why will it be ferocious?"
you: "because I said so!"
no thanks Jeff

My long term thesis is bitcoin dominance is headed to the 40s. To get there we need alt seasons. We’ve had multiple alt seasons during every crypto macro bull cycle and I’m confident that isn’t changing this time around. I’m still a huge bitcoin fan but I think many alts outperform in 2021 (again).

Oh I still say, "just focus on btc until you know everything there is to know about btc, eth might go to the moon in the next year, but that isn't the point."

Why BTC over ETH?
Decentralized
And the fact that I've lost faith in the benefit of tokenized crypto
Companies aren't adding ETH to their balance sheet as a reserve asset.

quote:No, I'm there with you. BTC outpaces the majority of Alts in 2021 due to the big money flowing in. The past 2 bull markets, there was no big money, only your retail investors.
am I the only not convinced there will be an alt season?

That’s completely fair. I never shill alts to my friends just getting interested for the first time. Too risky and too uncertain

Eth fails on the major things that make bitcoin interesting. There's no absolutely scarcity, there is a small group controlling it, it can't be widespread mined because it's too hard, and they have created coin without proof of work in the past.
I've seen the major pro being the transaction speed and cost is way better than bitcoin so it's a transfer tool. However if bitcoin plays out, square and paypal are going to put ledgers ontop of bitcoins ledger and you won't need eth , even if it is useful and needed now.
I still own eth, a little, because it think it will get drawn up by btc regardless of all that because of its market cap already being where it is. When people come in that don't know anything, they are going to buy eth if they buy anything other than btc.

okay that's fair but my argument (or thesis) would be that the market is much different now then in the past - people are smarter and less risk averse and it's less retail (possibly that will change)
full disclosure I'm 90/10 btc/alts because I do think you can make big money with an alt port but it's gambling and riskier
I'll even buy a bag of XRP before this sec hearing just for the chance of the moon shot

The fact that there is a ton of stuff is built on ETH is worth something.

Momentum plays are extremely valid and money makers in this space from what I've seen so far. You can absolutely make money on playing alt charts. You can make 100% off a coin before you or I or anyone knows what the hell the narrative of that coin is and if it even makes any sense at all. Meanwhile that company is making more coin, diluting your money and raising funds for their "company".
If you have the time to sit there and watch it on your hands, then cool, you can make some money. But for most people which you need to get to btc for btc to take off, they need not worry about a single alternative coin in my opinion

that's also an issue because anyone and their brother can potentially create a token and enter the eth network

exactly which is also why I'm skeptical that any big company would want to hold this type of thing on their balance sheets

It was kind of telling yesterday; I listened to fastmoney on cnbc, they were doing their 2021 summaries. 2 of the 5 contributors talked about bitcoin for the majority of their time. Brian Kelly has pumped bitcoin for a long time now so that didn't surprise me, he was one of the first people that gave it some validity in my mind when I heard him start talking about it regularly on CNBC.. And then a 3rd guy responded to one of the 2 and talked about it for another while without actually disagreeing with owning bitcoin.
That's crazy, stock predictions for 2021, and they talk bitcoin on one of CNBC's most popular shows.

I have zero faith in OMG but it would buy me such an insignificant amount of BTC, I'm just letting it ride for the off chance it spikes like it did for a few weeks in 2020.
