I would suggest gaining an understanding of currencies in general.
Why do they trade the way they do? Why are some very volatile?
Why are some stable?

Gain and understanding of the technology.

Understand value. What is the real value versus the market trade value? How does one measure that?

How many coins are minted?
Which coins are most widely used?
What are they used for?
