re: New car extended warranty

I recently paid for one but I was having a crazy run of bad luck and life kicking me in the nuts - including the event that necessitated new cars. I was about to the point where I expected to get struck by lightning if I left the house on a cloudy day. At that point I probably would have bought an insurance policy against tiger attacks if you had offered it.
Peace of mind has a price and sometimes the present state of mind influences that. YMMV.

Lot of tech on these new, higher end vehicles. Negotiate a good price for the extended warranty and strongly consider it.

I’d they will underwrite the risk, then why wouldn’t the buyer? I buy insurance because I have a legal obligation or to protect against catastrophe. Seems like a risk, I’d take.

Put that 5k in VOO and don't worry about it

I have never bought one and try to drive cars into the ground.
I almost bought an extended warranty on the latest two purchases because of all thee over complication and electronics in new cars.
Then I looked at my bad luck with cars recently. The last three cars I have bought for my family have been totaled before the manufacturer warranty expired (none our fault). I guess you can or (insurance will) cancel them if they aren't used, but at the end of the day it is a risk tolerance question, and luck plays a huge part in it.

I asked for some warranty company suggestions other than the dealer when we bought about 2 months ago. Compared prices and for us the dealer was cheaper. Mazda was $1500 for 10 years 100k warranty. The wife’s suv was a bit more expensive and for everything coverage it was $3800. For that price it offered rim and tire plan, unlimited windshield replacements with a 6” or longer crack, gap insurance, and warranty to 10 years 100k. The screen in the wife’s car is 27 inches and has a lot of bells and whistles. A couple of issues and to me it pays for itself at this point.
