Not an attitude. Just pointing out reality.

There was a post last week that was even worse.

Someone posted a stock symbol and said "up 40%!!!" (Or something close to that.)

So I looked that stock up. The price of the stock when I looked at it was under a penny/share. (I'm not making that up.) It was up 40% but it had only increased a fraction of a cent.

If that gets someone excited about their investing acumen then all I can say is they get excited by form over substance and bless their heart...

There’s no need for the dismissive and condescending tone.

40% of $1000 is still $400. Doesn't matter if it is in a penny stock or Apple

Are you saying the person owned $1,000 worth of a stock that was selling for less than a penny?

Or to put it another way, he owned about 250,000 shares of that less-than-a-penny stock?

Not only is that not likely, it's damn UNLIKELY.

If he owned 1000 shares, which is more likely, his gain was a grand total of about $4.

2,000 shares? $8! WOW!!! Be still my heart!

You can brag to all your friends about making 40% on a stock in one day and hope you look like an investment genius to them but you can't buy a cup of coffee and a muffin at CC's with the day's profit.

That's the mathematical reality of playing with those kinds of stocks.

how is this unlikely though? there are many people out there that like to 'play' in the otc markets and make a killing doing so.

i've bought and sold tons of plays under .01 (thousands, and if you get to the .000 territory, it's millions of shares) and have done well there.

yes, we know, the otcmarkets is unsavory and meant to be only for wolf of wall street types and suckers and pieces of shite like me, but there is a niche there and you can make money.

again, it's all about your risk appetite anyway. 99% of the otc are share selling scams and fake mergers, yep...but knowing that going in and not pinning hopes and dreams of getting rich on onetstock in the otc should be a prerequisite to venturing there anyway.

i know i know, you are much more finance and wall street savvy than I and the vast majority on the board, so i will concede to you in any debate here.

Your idea is that he didn’t invest a large amount into it. But you have no clue

He said he didn't. His exact quote was "I still have a few (shares)."

So, unless you believe "a few shares" means owning millions of shares, then, yeah, I DO have a clue. And the percent he was celebrating was +25% not +40% as I wrote earlier. (I was going by memory earlier and I just looked up his thread to get the exact wording.)

And since the day he posted that his stock has since lost almost 70% of its value from when he started his thread. It's now selling at .0054 cents/share.

I don't want to link his thread because I'm not trying to call him out. I was just using his post as an example of how being up a big % on a near worthless stock is cute but not meaningful.

Really? Isn't the purpose of investing to make money? You'd think that would be significant on a "Money Talk" board.

Obviously you do. You keep repeatedly posting about it.

Did you not read my previous post where he described his ownership of shares as only "a few"? That at least tells me he didn't own millions of shares.

Please list all of my "alternative accounts" that I use to post so I'll know which ones to reply to you with.

Of course, you already know about BennyAndTheInkJets so you don't have to list that one.

I'll list three names to give you a head start:

1) castorinho
2) cgrand
3) wutangfinancial
So, who are all the others? I'll let you know if you're right or not. You're pretty smart so I expect you'll know all of them.

Feeling a little insecure, are you? Just because I laughed at your massive 32 cents gain on a stock?

BTW, that same stock that you were so excited to report being up 6.5% yesterday is down over 30% in after hours trading tonight. I hope you held on to a few of those small-picture Benjamins.
