Modern investing book for novice

As absurd as this is going to sound, you might be describing The Wolf of Investing by Jordan Belfort. I've seen this guy on his press tour, and it may all be phony, but he's basically trying to simplify and guide everyone into how to smartly play the long term market without making absurd gambles.

This book focuses on a long term strategy using a asset allocation strategy based on science and art. And a short term strategy on 5% on your portfolio using a rinse and repeat strategy. Good book for understanding how the whole security industry works explained through the story of the author’s brother and sister in laws. Hard to believe a book without index for reference. Neither a reference summary of book acknowledgements. The author is in heavy support of Modern Portfolio theory and Buffett’s support of an index fund and a big promotion of vanguard products. Overall it gives you a good idea of where and how to start.

I haven't read it. I don't know if his turn is real or if he's just trying to make a buck. But people seem to like it.
