I still have no clue how to come up with a "theme" that would effectively weave every single topic/video listed in the template into a flowing, coherent thought. I'll probably just treat each section individually and reference separate sections sporadically to at least give the illusion of a 'theme.' Kinda frustrating, given that this course really isn't that difficult (just time-consuming). I mean I have well above a hundred right now, have a firm understanding of all concepts as well as how most of them inherently overlap despite being different schools of thought, but this isn't "clicking" at all.
I feel your pain, believe me. It usually took me about 4 hours to throw 3200 words into a skill builder. I've been slogging away on this paper for days and I'm only about 60% done. I'm at well above 100% for the course as well - which is a really good indicator of how important word count is. Based on my math, as long as we don't get a failing grade on the paper, we'll get an A in the course no matter what.
I chose a theme (can't say what it is for obvious reasons) based on a concept that runs through all of the strategic management but was really more implied than made a focal point in the course. I essentially saw one important key piece of what "management" is that really hasn't been discussed heavily in the course and have weaved it through what I wrote.

I know Meeks has been debated heavily here, but I don't know how you guys do it. I couldn't type all of that. I'm not an executive but in my version of employment reality nobody is reading all of that.
Yup, it's completely counterintuitive to the real world. Typical academia. The only reason I'm pushing through is that dropping wasn't an option. I had to finish this course, this term, to graduate this term and be done.

Anyone coming out of these heavy writing classes, expecting that it will be useful in actual work will be sorely disappointed. They will put in a ton of time to fluff it all up, and when they hand it to an executive the first thing they will hear is:
Can you summarize this in about a page?
From dozens of VPs to CEO's, I have yet to meet a senior executive that wants to look at something more than a page unless it's REALLY super serious or legal type stuff (or graphs).
Agreed. More often it's not even a page. I've had plenty of instances where I've had to send critical information as five or so bullet points in an email written on an iPhone from the airport.

I agree, but for me, Ive become a better writer through the sheer volume that we have done in this course.
Probably not the best way to learn, but hey, Ill take it

I'm also interested in any information related to Huang for Acct 701. Seems like Ambrosio is well liked but Huang may be new...nothing on RateMyProfessors, either. Any thoughts are appreciated!
I don't know anything about Huang.
What I liked most about Ambrosio is that he applied Acct. Lessons to real-life business scenarios. Look at these statements and tell me if the company is well-positioned, what areas can they improve, and what can they do to improve those areas.
If you do get cold feet about Huang's unknown factor, keep in mind that core classes are now offered every term. You will be able to take ACCT 701 any time in the future. I'm using this to alter my own schedules. If I see a concentration class with a "desirable" instructor... I snag the concentration and drop the core. Also, if I do not see a "desirable" instructor in the core class I want... I take something else and wait it out. Essentially, I look to strike where the iron is hot each term.

Thanks for the input! I should be ok, I’m at about 7,000 words mostly from using material copied from the skill builders. Still need about 5 or 6 references to meet the 11, but I should be good. Same here, at a 100 in the class now so hopefully I can keep it.

ZachT regards to MADM 760 Meeks:
I started my synthesis paper 4 days before the deadline. Typed almost 3000 words, abided by the amount of references required, and worked to prove my idea with arguments for and against...another words, worked hard on the content and flow. It took me right up until an hour before the deadline for completion. I made a low A. I thought he graded it a little harder then usual. I, like many, had more than 100% in the class. It could have been the word count, but what did I care? I still made an A. And, I was all written out by that last week's assignments plus the paper.
Thanks for the advice as well. He really freaked me out when he said you need 140 points or you fail the class. I am also at the stage where I am written out. Between Leadership communication and Meeks organizational strategy Ive written enough papers for a lifetime!

140 points!?? So you have to get a 70% or you fail!? How the hell does that math work ?
Posted on 12/1/18 at 8:27 pm to zachtiger
no clue. i just remember it from the syllabus. basically he wants to ensure that we do the paper with some effort.
otherwise, assume you are about to graduate and have over 100 in the class, why not just skip it and take a B?

I took the LSUS program for the same reasons as most of you. I would have preferred a local option allowing me to interact/network/study with professionals in my area, but that wasn't practical and also a very acceptable loss for all the benefits of LSUS online.
I see incessant grumblings about a few classes being overly tedious with minimal benefit; sometimes it is just a specific instructor while sometimes it seems to be the class... regardless of instructor. I really don't want to invest 40 hrs per week in a course without getting a ton of bang for that buck (other than our piece of paper at the end).
I'm thinking of mitigating both the above issues by taking a couple of classes locally. General LSUS guidelines are that we MAY be approved to transfer in six Masters-level credits (two classes). With that said, I will have the following classes remaining:
ISDS 710
MADM 760
MKTG 701
FIN 701
I'm looking at trying to take MKTG 701 and MADM 760 locally. I hear FIN 701 is hard but educational and beneficial. ISDS 710 seems in total disarray but may be decent if they iron out the "R" bugs... or I can replace it with FIN 740 which could be very difficult but teach me a ton.
Am I exaggerating the bad work/benefit ratio of MKT 701 or MADM 760 or does this seem like a rational course of action? Has anyone else transferred in credits after starting the LSUS program?

How is McLaughlin’s Module Six exam? Any insights? Want to know...if I get high enough of a grade, I may not have to take the last exam... :)

So, let's consider what a local in-person MBA course situation might look like:
- I'd have to imagine that you'll have to apply and meet admission requirements (GRE/GMAT, prereqs, GPA, etc)
- Likely more expensive, even at schools local to us (GSU, KSU, GT, UWG, UNG, Troy Covington)
- Longer traditional semesters outside summer term (roughly twice the length of LSUS terms, 15 weeks)
- Schedules can be difficult to work around and balance with work/family/social life
- Have to manage credit transfers between schools and course equivalency proof
Now let's look at existing LSUS options:
FIN 701 with Vines is a great course. You'll learn a lot and the workload is very manageable. Opportunities for interacting with students multiple times a week through hour-long zoom sessions.
I wouldn't recommend ISDS 710 at all as a Data Analytics specialization/concentration course, especially with the "marketing pretending to be analytics" curriculum being used. They aren't bringing R back to that course to keep it in line with the catalog description. At this point, I wouldn't recommend the DA track to any incoming MBA candidate, but I'm assuming you're deep into the DA specialization/concentration and have taken ISDS 702. I would take FIN 701 with Vines and then give FIN 740 a shot as a Data Analytics replacement. If you haven't taken HCAD 750 (meaning you're only in the DA specialization, not the concentration), I would change to a general MBA track and just find a different elective course altogether.
MADM 760 with Meeks is probably the best course at LSUS for student interaction. The material is actually quite good and I've learned quite a bit. You've heard us all complain about the writing work lately, and it's admittedly a pain in the arse.
MKT 701 is a tough one. The version I took with James was honestly much like Meeks: great content, learned a lot, but the work is a complete pain in the arse. The upside is that the most work is concentrated into weeks 4-7, so it's not the entire course. Make no mistake though, this course is like having a second job for a few weeks.
So, out of the four courses, you have left, three are great in terms of learning with three of the relatively better instructors in the program, relatively speaking. One course - ISDS 710 - is so bad as an elective that it just shouldn't be offered, but other electives can be great. One (Vines) was one of my favorite instructors in the program. Two (MADM 760 and MKT 701) are going to hurt for a term. Since you have 60% of the program done, unless you plan on transferring out to complete your MBA elsewhere, I'd rather endure the workload than go through the hassle of being accepted into another program to transfer course credit.

Seriously, I am having a hard time reading Lin's articles.

Don’t read the article sir. Look for definitions. That’s what we have been tested on.
Posted on 12/2/18 at 8:20 pm to bsramzy
Got it, how did you do on the last test? I got an 84 so I have to score a 94 to get an A in the class.
