Reminder to ISDS 705 (Lin) students that Test #1 is next Wednesday, 3/28, and you have to set-up an account and schedule the exam through ProctorU.

@fishee2 - I just finished MKT710 with Darrat in AP1 and loved the class. It is primarily discussion posts and papers. The discussion length and papers were all manageable and the material interesting. If you like marketing, I would recommend it.

Has anyone looked at the reading for next week in MADM 715?? I counted somewhere near 180 pages of reading. Hopefully, some guidance comes out on what to focus on for the weekly test. Kind of intimidating!

I was happy that I squeaked out a decent grade on the MADM715 test this evening (way more rote detail oriented than last week's test). Then I saw your post, and yes, it does look like 180 pages, well at least ~40 are footnotes, so 140 pages of reading and next weekend is a holiday / family weekend too--ouch!

I thought you all were joking about the 180 pages. Then i started scrolling through the reading and the pages kept going and going...........is this a one time thing...or were the first two weeks a bamboozlement on expectations?!

Thanks for heads up! Edited my post.

I've gotten confused many times already on due dates of these things (The Upcoming Events top right of site page & Submission link itself say Abstract Due Sunday April 1 12:55AM & Syllabus says Thur March 29).

Thanks for the heads up on the MADM 715 abstract. I'm feeling really overwhelmed. This class is really confusing (and frustrating) regarding due dates. Most classes have Saturday or Sunday due dates which make a lot of sense for distance students. These mid-week due dates are not only hard to track, but I'm running into scheduling issues thanks to work and life commitments.

The course is quite interesting, and I think the material is good, but I've spent over 16 hours research time already on this project in the two weeks of class, and I'm nowhere near ready to create a presentation or even write an abstract (something I would typically write last). I don't think I'm going to get much sleep this week, as trying to balance this week's reading along with moving the research project along is a ton of work.

Hello, your message is the only one I have found about ECON 705 with White for Spring AP2. I really cannot believe the structure of this class and that she thinks that by having these discussion boards with hundreds of comments, is going to help us learn?! In addition, she gives us tons of exercises and reading questions without any solid answers to check our work. The only way we can get help is by searching for hours on a discussion board... Are you going to stay in the class? I don't see any point on trying to go on with her class anymore, I am not grasping the material at all.

Hi everyone! I'm finally diving into this site although I've been referencing it for months. I'm on my 4th class in the program and I'm loving it. I'm currently in ISDS 705 with you, WDE251. Looking forward to the first test Wednesday. I'm a little weirded out by the easy content and open book invitation. Not sure what to expect. Each class I've taken so far has had an entirely new format for me to adapt to. Keeps things exciting, you could say.

I hear ya regarding MADM715. The structure of the course seems so disorganized between the conflicting listed due dates and "textbook" which definitely feels thrown together with a bunch of repetitive stuff within it. On the bright side, it's been easy reading and exams haven't been too difficult (so far)

I think many of professors are having to change on the fly due to this no textbook format and it's hurting the quality of the courses in the meantime. It's definitely changed since August.

Anyone in Fin 701 this quarter? Is it a pair-able class?

@BeckyBLU,

I just finished up Fin 701, I paired it with MKT701 while it was a rough 7 weeks (mainly because of MKT) you can pair it up. It all depends on what your schedule allows. Would not recommend pairing it with MKT though.
FIN701 was a lot of understanding concepts with a lot of math thrown in it. So, if you are decent with math then I would say you could pair it.
Vines did a great job at making sure he was available through zoom meetings to answer any questions students had.

Rosendo, I am in the same spot. There is no real instruction and not enough hours in the day to read hundreds of forum posts looking for the answers to the problems. Unlike other professors, like Dr. Vines, she offers a single zoom session. I'm pretty disheartened. This is my fifth class, and I have three A's and a B in the other classes. I don't see me making it past this class. I will likely stick around until April 11th, and drop at that time. If the next two weeks are more manageable, then its possible I can bring my grade up. If not, I am considering calling it a day with the program. As others have noted, it has taken a considerable turn for the worse since LSUS has attempted to do away with purchasing text books. On a side note, almost 33% of the class has dropped and week two isn't even finished yet.

I'm with you @mtntreks How am i suppose to write an abstract to a project I haven't really started let alone finished to be able to write 100 words of a conclusion?

The textbook disappointment, with the twitter and exam technical issues and a 400 point project with little direction, the course is causing quite a bit of unnecessary anxiety.

But I do agree that the information is interesting and I am actually enjoying reading the cases. Just wish it wasn't packaged together so haphazardly.

A for content; D for presentation/organization.

@Danal did you pair ISDS 705 with anything? While i'm finding it was perfect to pair with MADM 715, the overlapping due dates and my upcoming bday and trips make it not so easy. Test #2 and the MADM virtual project are due on the same day
