I've actually been thinking about this lately and I'm leaning towards giving up my citizenship and moving out of the country after retiring.

If you wish to retain your citizenship you must continue to pay federal income tax on all of your earnings.
If you are earning money overseas, you don't need to pay taxes on it. I'm sure there are certain caveats to this, but basically just move out of the country and go to work. No reason to renounce your citizenship.

Does this include capital gains and dividends?

George Clooney promised us he would move to Canada when Bush won but he hasn't done it yet.
More seriously, it's starting to be popular now to move to Central/South America. Some of the places are actually kinda nice and it doesn't cost a lot. I know a guy in Venezuela who is from Tennessee but moved ten years ago. He has a bass fishing camp in the Orinoco river delta area, believe it or not.

That's the area I was thinking, but I'm still a long time away from retirement so a lot of things could change. I also plan on giving our government a big "frick you" on paying taxes on my 401k so I won't be welcome back anytime soon.

Monaco. 0% income tax.
Yeah, but wouldn't a 1 bedroom condo cost you like $600 grand?

IF the gov't allows you to live there.
