According to CNN Money. They have the lowest "jobless rate" of the top 10 metro areas with 200k plus populations.

Anyone living there care to comment?

Think this conclusion factors in the recent downturn in oil and gas?

"Now Hiring" signs everywhere I go around town. Retail and food service jobs abound. No sure about professional positions. I'd imagine it's somewhat similar.

They're doing a job fair up here in Shreveport-Bossier to try and recruit hospital workers. Not sure if NW hospitals are doing job fairs down there.

It won't be once BHO and Company kill the offshore oil industry.

I have had 3 guys in my apartment complex get laid off in the last month. 2 are in the oil industry and not sure what the other guy did.

I have no idea, but I do live in the DC metro area (placed just above Laffy) and things are going pretty well here. Not to mention that there's a helluva lot more to do on the weekend.

With the kind of spending the government is doing right now, DC and northern Virginia look to be poised pretty well for the next couple of decades.

One of the absolute best energy opportunities is for wind and hydro energy from the huge constallation of offshore oil platforms. If the O&G industry and the state and businessmen could show imagination, this could be the utlimate bonanza to compliement fossil fuel extratction.

How would they get the electricity back to shore? And, seems like corrosion would be a big hassle.

It's true! Lafayette leads the entire state in Work Comp claims and it's not even close. Awful place to do business in LA.

That's not quite the same thing as:

"1 in every 4 workers out there is on workers' compensation"

If you are referring to the large number of offshore workers that have workers comp claims, I can guarantee you the vast majority of them don't live in Lafayette. They may work for a company based out of here but most likely they live in BFE.

Yeah no joke. Not to mention the much higher probability for an injury on the job considering the type of work that alot of Lafayette people do. Versus some douche like me sitting in an office in Houston. Of course the workers comp claims are gonna be higher.
