I would guess doing an internship would help you out immensely. That would give you some experience and networking.

Basically, find a specific field you are interested in and do ANYTHING you have to in order to get an internship with a company in that field.

If you can't get an internship, you're most likely screwed.

Wish I would have had a job all four years of school. Just more you can talk about during interviews. Check Careers2Geaux.

Also, talk to any professionals you know (your parents friends, your own friends who recently graduated and have jobs, etc.). Networking is most likely going to make or break you.

Do some really in-depth research about what you want to do with your life. If I had it to do over again, I would be in medical school or law school right now.

In my observation, work experience trumps grades when you are about to leave college and enter the workforce. Having experience working in a professional environment will be a big plus for you when talking to a potential employer. Ideally you would have been amassing this experience all through your college career, but if you are a junior you can still get something for at least the summer (or more if you are willing to stretch out your senior year). Employers want to know that you can handle working with others professionally before they make the substantial investment to hire you.

Good luck with John Deere.

In my experience, its definately WHO you know and not what you know. Of course, you have to know the basics and the more intelligent you can speak, helps a lot. The more successful (and promoted) of any group of businessmen are the ones that can speak a long while and say nothing. And sound intelligent doing it. Communication skills and knowing someone - keys to unward mobility.

I graduated with the same degree in December. I had a somewhat difficult time finding a job, but found a great one before graduating.

Definitely get an internship if you can. It will be a great experience to learn and fill out your resume. Also use the internship experience to network. As mentioned above, this will likely make or break you.

I started looking for a job about 3 months before I graduated. Its tough to find something decent if you don't want to do sales, but keep looking.
