We had USAA. WE left after a negative experience and went to Farm Bureau. I like Farm Bureau much better.

Update:

Made the switch today. I called Liberty Mutual to discuss with them to see what they could do. No one in my local office, so I got some lady somewhere. She looked at my auto policy and said the price was up becaue their costs went up. No real explanation. She also called me by the wrong name twice, so not sure what she had up on her screen while talking to me.

I then asked about my home policy going up so much, and she said she would have to transfer me. Put me on hold, came back a couple of minutes later and said the queue to talk to someone about a home policy was 150 customers deep, that my wait time would be over an hour. Asked me to call back on Wednesday or Thursday.

Got off the phone with her and called my friend and already have my new ID cards. I hate insurance.

I do everything with an independent agency. They have relationships with a network of insurance companies, know which companies pay out and which ones don’t. Every couple years we revisit the insurance and upgrade within or change companies. What is an awesome deal today is a mediocre deal tomorrow. They are on top of getting your best interests satisfied.

The recent thing they recommended was a wind mitigation survey. It has saved me $700 a year.

I want to save $700. What’s a wind mitigation survey and what was the process like?

We have been with State Farm since forever for both home and auto. They've been very good to us
I have been with SF since adulthood, so basically 30 years. My parents lifelong SF folks prior. I have had two claims in this amount of time. One for a freak deal that I had no liability in and another for roof damage. Both times they took care of it. But current increases are getting tiresome. I think a lot of them, but my buddy has had three claims in 10 years on home owners between camp and house and they dropped him afterwards and he also had been with them 30 years or so.

I suppose the answer to your question is that they will drop you when it is financially disadvantageous to keep you, so why not drop them?

Where do you live? If in metro NOLA I can send you the contact.

They inspect the roof, windows, etc, and write a report on a standard agreed upon form by the insurance companies. A new roofing code went into effect recently, but roofers have not adapted. It ensures a solid secondary water barrier, but it has to be done an exact certain way. Unfortunately, an investment property I am about to purchase replaced the roof in '23 but not to that new code to save on insurance. I replaced a different roof in '22 with that method and that was part of the $700 savings.

Other things like the windows, you can have a Miami Dade rated plexiglass custom made for all your windows, which you store in your garage or attic. Just by having them saves a lot on insurance. Supposedly they are pretty cheap to make, and I am having my shutter guy make them, then will update the survey.

There are other items they check for to help with the survey.
