I don’t see it as hating on the project I just see it as uninformed. I tried in the other thread to counter his points but it was so obvious he was spoon fed the fud campaign. But hopefully this thread can be used to educate others and I will post some more Chainlink information later today

So walk me through this, I want to buy a little crypto just for the hell of it. Portfolio diversification if you will. So I will chose this chainlink only because I see the association with Google.
Where would you buy? I'm not talking about a lot of money at all. Just want to have something and see how it goes.

You can now buy it on Coinbase. In the past you had to buy Ethereum or BTC on Coinbase and then send that to Binance and use that to purchase Link. Now that it is listed on Coinbase it makes it much easier which is a reason for the large price increase last week

Gotcha, that was one of my gripes when I first looked at crypto. I just want to click and buy.

Use Coinbase pro though, it has way smaller fees. Regular Coinbase is to upcharge the noobs with fees.

I have always felt these debates confuse two topics. Crypto as the currency and crypto as the technology.
I remember my conversations with Wiki about it and I said back then, if the technology was the coming of the new age as predicted, then it would be picked up, used, and well regulated.
As far as investing the coins, its all been pure speculation with a 50/50 shot.
Now. I don't deny people have made money, but with the massive volumes, there have been, what I view, as pump and dumps. It is just not the type of investor I am.
Further, there are no use for these coins. Who in their right mind would use BTC as a currency? The price just moved 10% this morning... Why on earth would you do that?
Also, I can ask people why the 10% increase today and get 10 different answers.
The stock market, to me, is much more stable and suitable to my risk tolerance. To me, I rather invest my full capability there and feel more stable than taking a portion and throwing it at a wall.
All that is not to say I don't believe in the technology, I do. I'd just rather trust that technology in the hands of a public corporation.

Right which is still why i have yet to own bitcoin. I do not promote crypto as a currency. It’s dumb. You can tokenize currency keep it stable and use digital money without the need for Bitcoin. However distributed ledger technology is the science behind bitcoin. Ethereum is smart contracts . These smart contracts are going to change the way Fortune 500 companies do business and affect their bottom dollar significantly. In order for these contracts to work they need to communicate with the data of the outside world. This data needs to be decentralized to trigger events or the whole distributed ledger is pointless. This is where Chainlink comes to play. You aren’t talking about value of a token you are now talking about value of data and the token being the settlement layer needed.
A great example of the need for a decentralized oracle is yesterday’s cloud fare outage. If a contract was executing on the price of bitcoin from coinmarketcap during the outage then it would have been reported as $27. Chainlink is the network that delivers the data from these different api sources into the contract. If one node goes down there are several others to aggregate reliable data.

Yep. I just feel more comfortable investing in the partnering public companies.
Like the Facebook deal. I actually think there will be many uses for something like that while traveling abroad and (hopefully) having a secure way of payment between currencies.

Understandable.
Even with the Facebook coin for it to work as intended while on a blockchain it needs to peg its coin to the real value of the usd/yen/etc. The speculation is that it will need Chainlink’s oracle to do this.

Good work CE. I’m glad someone broke from the crypto thread to try an educate other people. The official crypto thread can prob scare/intimidate the uninformed kinda like the Q thread on PT.
Disclaimer - I am in no way comparing Q talk to crypto talk.

Just a reminder Chainlink was $1.72 when this thread was posted. It’s now hovering around $32.
