Has anyone been a victim of it and how did you stop it from continuing?

Little backstory: We have been receiving things that have been purchased from stores (Iphones from T-Mobile and someone opened an account in my husbands name, Items from Adorama, and also a credit card bill from some weird credit company). Also at one point our mail was stopped, went to the post office after about the 4th day of not getting mail and someone went online to stop our mail for a week. We think they stopped it to intercept the stuff from Adorama. Yesterday we received a notice from the post office that our mail was being forwarded to another address at OUR request. Obviously we didn't do this, whoever is stealing from us using our identity did it. Other than freezing our credit, calling the credit card company that sent us the bill, and filing a report with the cops is there anything else we can do? Would LOVE to know who this motherfricker is. This is fricking annoying and kinda scary how easily someone can steal your info. We do know it is someone who is using a 504 number.

It’s a pain in the butt. I hate to burst your bubble but it is unusual to catch these criminals. I hope you are luckier then most.

Well we have the address to where they wanted their mail forwarded to. We will give that to the cops maybe they will be caught.

Unless you are really lucky, the cops won't care about this.

My mom had her CC number stolen at a Midas muffler shop in 2001 or so. The guy at the shop gave the CC# and my mom's name to his girlfriend, who then it turn uses the CC to pay her phone bill, buy groceries online, and buy a few other things.

We track all of this stuff down and hand it over to the local PD. The detective thanks us and says he will "look into it." A couple of weeks go by, we haven't heard anything. We call the detective, he has been "reassigned" and turned all of his old cases over to other detectives. We never can find out who was given this case, but as far as we know, nothing was ever done.

Yours seems a bit more egregious as it involves intercepting mail and stuff, so maybe LEO will be willing to do more. At least get the post office/postal inspector involved since the mail thing would probably be a federal offense.

send me your e mail address. My identity was stolen earlier this year and you need some help. I have written a detailed log of my experience along with mistakes made.

Chances are their last name is Wang. You won't find them.

Just focus on cleaning up the mess, not worth your time stressing over who did it. I was a victim some years ago... someone used my identity for several pay day loans which killed my credit and the stupid pay day loan company was not cooperative at all. Police report is basically a check box to make, they are likely not going to do much of anything.

Tampering with mail makes it a federal crime. Chances are if they did all of these things you aren't the only victim. I would look up how to report it to more than simply local authorities, and look into if the USPS police handle this type of work.
