What's funny is that this is actually very easy to do and you haven't got a serious answer.
Buy something off craigslist or a car auction and resell it. Easy money. People get in a bind every day. Exploit it.
How often do you that?

also try to not get shot when buying off craigslist

In college I did it all the time. Not really worth my time now. I still buy and sell shite.
Bought a car last year at an auction for 12 and sold it the next week for 14.5.
Plenty of legal hustles out there

i love bama, i do that alot, just get a car dealers license, it's $500 and then get setup with manheim, you can get a pre-sale list before the auctions and just buy from your living room on your laptop. Same with copart but copart is salvage cars so you'll need a garage to fix them up but both are great places to make money on the side. I literally have 15 cars just parked at my stores that I've bought and list and sell online.

Posted on 8/1/13 at 10:39 pm to wegotdatwood
Had a scholly so mom and dad let me have all the money they saved for me to go.
With even a few hundred bucks you can start flipping shite.

I'll look into in, I'm not a "car guy." How did you find the deals other than just doing a KBB or whatever else evaluates vehicles?

The rule of 72.
Divide 72 by your rate of return. The quotient is the number of years it will take to double your money.
So at 12% rate of return, your money will double in 6 years.
IDEA: Don't be greedy or fearful. Be REASONABLE.
A stock heavy portfolio will most likely return more than alternatives, however, there can be downturns. Depending on your age, most people should be between 50% and 90% stocks in their asset allocation.
Their is no magic bullet. Time and consistency will outperform "market timing".

If you do not want to buy off of craigslist, I have noticed several facebook groups have popped up in my area that are for selling items. I highly recommend going that route if you want to make a quick sell. I have sold a futon and a dart board, while buying a relatively new toaster oven.

What's funny? All he has to do is sell a dozen more futons and one thousand more dart boards (and stop buying toaster ovens, relatively new or not) to double his 5k. What are you doing?

I am not trying to double $5k, I was getting caught up in the discussion about flipping stuff on craigslist. I recently moved, and it was nice making a quick buck on some of the items I otherwise would have thrown out.

Nothing wrong with that. The toaster oven part amused me.

My coworker brought a toaster over to the office several months ago. My taste buds will be forever thankful for him introducing the oven to our office. At the same time if he takes it away it will take a week or so to start appreciating my sandwiches cold again.
With that being said, it was hard for me to pass up a $10 toaster oven in the case my coworker removes his, and I got one at home now.
