How much to spend a month on Rent?

Flying up to Massachusetts in 2 weeks for a final interview with a company.
If i get/take the job i would be living there for roughly 2 /12 - 3 years doing training and working, then i would move to a hub somewhere.
i would get a company car, all benefits and starting salary of 41,000.
since i wont be paying car insurance and i will be getting a company phone what would be a reasonable price per month for rent?
considering most of my expenses are being paid for i would feel comfortable spending around $1,000 a month or a little over.
does that seem about right or am i missing some HUGE expense that will drastically change my mindset?

I made 32k when I 1st started working... Paid $980 for rent.
You situation is completely doable with the stuff you already have paid for

none that I can think of for renting. just make sure you get renter's insurance. should only be like 20/month, if that. and of course remember to budget your utilities and internet/tv cost.

I wouldn't spend that much on rent. If you start contributing 15% to a 401K on that money then you'd be spending about half of your take home pay on rent.
I would try to find something between 700-900
Do they pay for fuel as well?

You're looking at about 3400/month pre taxes. Say after taxes you're looking at about 2600. I wouldn't spend more than 1000 no (rougly 40%) on rent. Do factor in you will have to pay utilities, such as electric, water, cable, etc. That can add up to a couple hundred a month. Are you paying the gas on your car? again something that adds up. I always say that you shouldn't spend more than 60% on living expenses such as rent and food and bills. 30% on enjoyment and 20% to savings.

That would definitely impact your approach depending on what type of commute you have. If you're close to work and other things it might not be a big issue.

I hope so

Maybe in years past... But not with these tax rates and your missing healthcare

I don't know what taxes are up there, and I spitballed based off what I have taken out every month. My pay check varies though so not the best comparison
eta: Which just furthers my point. I would NOT be spending 1000 just on rent.
Our apt. complex requires the household to make 3x the rent($1300) just to qualify.

I am in about the same situation, except I have a ten year old truck and I am about to buy a new one. I just started fulltime 8 months ago, making 50k but bring home about $2900 after taxes, HSA, insurance, 401k, etc. I pay $980 for my half the rent and I wish I would have shopped around more... but the location is excellent in Houston. I also have student loans, saving for a new car and a house, engagement ring, etc. so you may be able to get by on that....seems too high though.

I'm hoping you meant 50% on living expenses

Definitely factor this in. A lot of apartments will include heat which can be a big expense. Look for one that also includes cable.

Boston, NYC, & DC are nothing like Louisiana with finding places to rent. He will have to pay around $900 a month for a decent place where he will be safe
And he will not have a 1 bedroom or anywhere close to that

Studio in the city will be around $1500 minimum
2 bedroom 1 bath in a highrise with a short commute run around $2000
If you take the smallest bedroom in a row house with 5 roommates your looking at $650
