Building a custom home in Texas now and we were locked in at $163/sqft.

Texas is some of the lowest building costs of a country.

Building a house in Florida right now. We locked in our pricing last summer before things got completely crazy. But it’s still $275 a square foot.

Should go down but not very much. 160-180 in south Louisiana isn’t that bad.

Yep. Right on the Texas border. That area of the country is cheap to build.

We are near the beach. Part of the driver for our pricing is all the wind requirements.

A 2000sf house would be $340K @ $170/sf. That’s around a $1,700/ month note before PMI unless you’ve got almost $80K laying around.

And boomers have the audacity to bitch at my generation for not being able to be self sustaining.

I can assure you that what is called a “custom home” for $160sqft in south La and parts of TX and what you are likely building for $300-600 a sqft are not in the same universe.

I built a 3500 sqft house in Baton Rouge for about $150 sqft for the house that I closed on in December. Land, pool, fencing, shop, and extra drainage I’ll be in it for about $240.
