It COULD be due to a squeeze and shorts covering, but it doesn't automatically mean it is.

Hard to say for sure but a halt on the way up is a sign the demand has outstripped supply. It was immediately followed by a halt on the way down indicating supply outstripped demand.
Any hedge fund getting out in front of a margin call would know not to simply blast a massive market order, so I wouldn’t say the halt on the way up is them covering, but it could be some forced buying from smaller players.
