AMEX is the best with this sort of nonsense. Fill out the online form and request a reasonable reimbursement and you should be credited the amount in the next 2-3 days.

When my car shows half a tank after a long drive, it's really probably only about 1/3 full. They might not be wrong.

It actually gets 23-30mpg, a fuel tanks listed capacity can never be reached due to venting, and how do you know how much gas you really used since you didn't fill it up?

They don't actually go fill it up right then, take the number of gallons required to refill and then multiply by $9.xx...they simply plug into their computer how much was left in the tank and it spits back a "fuel surcharge".

The contracts state that if you don't return it full they will charge for a full tank. Tough shite on that part. They also are required by law to clearly state how much a person will be charged per gallon for the refill.

Not any of the ones I've had.

Don't return full. You pay $x/gallon in fuel to refil.

Luckily my company has a deal where you don't have to fill it back up and they fill it up with the price of the day not the ridiculous overcharge rate.

You messed up. You should have filled it up. Own your mistake and don't do it again.

I made a similar decision two weeks ago and I swear my car was 98% full (just below the F on the gauge). They charged me like $18.00 to fill up what was probably $2.00 of gas.

Tough shite. Own it and don't don't do it again. Don't use AMEX or whatever as a cop out for your mistake.

You signed the contract and didn't fulfill your end of the deal. Why should the car company have any sympathy (Note: They shouldn't).

Eat a dick.

I didn't start this thread for some teachable moment in fiscal responsibility, especially from some long-winded blowhard. Objectively, a company charged me for about $50 more in gas than is physically possible unless there was a hole in the tank. That is all.

Since you were so delirious I am sure you knew exactly how much fuel was left in the tank...

Fine, do it. Use a Credit Card company's policy to cover your ignorance.
