I guess it assumes you are out partying and drinking.

No, it assumes that it is a higher risk to be driving during those times.

You could be drinking, you could be sleepy driving, and even if you aren't, you are on the road with those that are.

Progressive started as an data analytics company. They are fishing for more data from which they can enhance their predictive models.

I would not give them a free look into your life...

Doesn't track speed whatsoever. You get dinged for 3 things

I promise you that thing is sending telemetry on EVERYTHING that car computer sees, from speed to time spent on certain gears to oil changes (if the car tracks that). Hell, it probably even looks at how often you kill your battery and need it jumped and how many miles you drive after a check engine light turns on.

They might only give penalties for those three, but they are data mining for everything.

The discount is as much for being a lab rat for them as it is for verification of safe driving practices.

They are definitely tracking speed as you can see how fast you went, but you are not penalized for it...

And who the frick cars if Progressive knows how fast I was going or when I was driving? If you don't want them to know, don't do it... Its only 6 months and I saved $400 a year on my insurance by doing it.

ETA: Now if the Govt was tracking it, I would have an issue with it...

Yo. I'm a good candidate for this program because I'm an extremely low mileage driver, which means I'm overpaying for insurance. When I first saw it I thought it was just based on your odometer readings, like a pay per mile program, and I was ready to sign up. But I'm not about to let them install a tattler. I already give way too much information to corporations (for instance, google, who's probably tracking me right now . Hi guys! *waves*) And Lord knows what they are doing with it, much less what they will do with it. I accept that it's kind of an inevitable part of modern life, but that doesn't mean I'm looking to volunteer for more.

I will never let an American hating company that donates to Soros causes have access to my information.

I was about to say this to the previous poster, if you are concerned with the limited data that is given to Progressive for 6 months, you should really rethink your computer and cell phone use...

Progressive's definition of a hard brake is absurd. I got 10 of them yesterday on the interstate where I used the brakes maybe 2 times.

Yeah, its pretty ridiculous, especially if you are in stop and go traffic... But for those 6 months, I just double the distance between the car in front of me... The savings I got was well worth the effort.
