Getting Promised a Promotion- Not Delivering. Any recourse?

So lets say I was promised a salary and promotion to not leave for another opportunity (I know, never take the counter). I was told by my bosses boss that it would happen (in a meeting that included my boss). It never did. I confronted him about it and he says, well I need to honor that. Nothing being done.

Do I have any recourse with HR about this? And yes, I am job shopping again.

I think you just leave and move on.

Do you have anything in writing stating that you have received a promotion?

Just start looking again and when they counter again give them a polite frick you. That would infuriate me.

I don't have anything currently. I didn't get anything in writing at the time. I knew that I should have, but now my director has been let go so no one is here to chase it down for me. Our CIO, finance guy, and my director were all in the meeting.

Find another job and then take them to small claims court for lost wages if it was significant.

I had a similair situation (raise / promotion promised for meeting certain goals).

Your recourse..... you quit and work for a better company. Hopefully one that will pay you what your worth and honor their promises to you.

So, they canned your director?

May as well leave before you get shown the door as well.

Yeah, but I think many, including him, saw this coming. Our CIO is new and they never got along. I think this was a personality conflict, more than anything. I don't think this is more widespread. But, I don't trust any of them at this point. I was thinking of going to HR about my issue, but part of me just says frick it. Leave. Just wondering what opinions were of whether going to HR would do any good. Not sure what I would get out of it anyway.

Should've got it in writing before you decided to turn down the other job.

Do the same thing again. See if they offer to match or exceed your new offer. Accept and then leave to the new job. Explained that was your notice.

I would say entertain it, but always get it in writing. And never accept a verbal promise in place of a signed offer letter.

nothing in writing? then your recourse is what i did - tell them you are quitting the day before you start your new job

Two words: E Mail. Get everything in writing. It looks like you're screwed on this go-around, but if you get an offer and they try that crap again, ask them to email you the particulars. If they balk, then you walk.

I would still approach your HR and CIO again about this, while still looking for a new job.

If they give it to you great, if not, you're still in the same spot you are now but looking for a new gig.

I am all for never burning bridges but it would take a lot for me to not just walk out that place the minute I got a new job.

frick them for doing that bullshite to you. So many employers try and pull this shite on their people.

It doesn't suprise me though because anyone offering a raise or promotion AFTER you tell them you found a new job are pieces of shite! If I'm doing a great job pay me now, dont wait until I tell you I'm moving on...one of the most bitch moves of certain companies.
