UPDATE on the 'too many stock symbols' problem: I think I've solved the problem by setting up two separate watch lists on MorningStar, exporting both of them into two different Excel worksheets and then merging them into one long list of symbols and percentages sorted alphabetically. Then I copy and paste the merged list into the "vlookup" data field on my main Excel chart so that I don't have to enter manually any percentages to get an updated performance chart.

Possibly some bad news, guys.
Unbeknownst to me, the maximum number of stocks MorningStar.com will accept in a watch list is 100. With DawgCountry's entry a few minutes ago I could not add HD (Home Depot) to the watch list I'm using for our contest as HD would become the 101st stock symbol on our list.
I'm going to explore some other possibilities to see if I can work around the limit such as setting up a second watch list.
However, my first impression is having to work between two watch lists will exponentially increase the amount of manual handling of the data (rather than just being able to "export" the watch list into my Excel spreadsheet) to the point I won't be interested in doing it because of the extra time involved.
I'll get back to everyone on here as soon as I can see what can be done.
I realize there are quite a few of you who have reserved a spot in the game but have not made your stock selections yet. One possibility is I can post the 100 stocks we currently have and you can pick and choose any 5 of those you want. I'm in that same boat because I haven't picked my 5 stocks yet either.
If anyone has any other ideas, please feel free to chime in.

I think I may have a stock pick, LMT, that no one else has picked. I would be willing to give it up and pick another from the list of 100. If enough others are willing to do the same then we could keep it simple.
Thanks for running the game.

Thanks for the offer, Plano, but it won't be necessary for you to give up LMT.
I just added PearlJam's symbols, which included 3 new companies no one else has picked, into a second watch list on MorningStar, and then did what I described in my post above, doing the exporting of the two watch lists, merging them into one list, sorting, copying and pasting routine, and it looks like the results are correct in the table which I use to post our YTD updated performance on here.
We now have 52 players, compared to 33 players in 2018, and have a total of 104 different companies selected compared to 96 this year.
It takes a few extra steps to make it work but I think we're good for now.
EDIT: I've decided to limit the number of players to 55. I put that as rule #7 in the OP. For 2018 we had 33 players and 95 stocks. I had no idea we would be over 50 players and have 112 stocks picked in less than one week. And we have 18 players, including myself, who still have to pick their stocks. It's starting to get too time consuming for me so I've put the 55 player limit in. As of this post we have 54 players signed up. If anyone gets left out who wanted to participate, my apologies.
A reminder to those who still have to pick your stocks, please make a new post with your 5 stocks when you choose them. Please don't just go back and edit your original 'reservation' post. I'm not going back to all the original place-keeping posts to see if anyone has updated them. Thanks.

You’re a good man. I don’t care what everyone else says

Posted on 12/17/18 at 12:43 pm to theOG
theOG, your company STNE does not have a YTD performance % on MorningStar.
Is it because the company went public sometime during this year?

Yeah, went public in 2018.

Please check it out. Thanks.

quote:Okay. When I checked AUPH's market cap this morning it was well over $500 million. As of this minute it's showing a market cap of $500.06 million. That's a pretty slim margin of error.

So, I'll go ahead and make TDOC to replace AUPH in your list.

For those of you who have not made your picks yet, please try to get them in before 1/1/19. I don't want to spend all New Year's Day entering stock symbols on an Excel spreadsheet if I can avoid it.
TimeOutdoors: For the third time, look at your pick "AAPN." MorningStar.com does not have it as a valid stock symbol. Please check it out and let me know what you want to do with it.
