Without WAITR in your portfolio, your YTD performance would be +15.7%.

Performance results updated through close of trading on Friday, October 18.

The number to the right of your YTD % was your ranking from our last update as of September 27. The percentage number to the right of your previous ranking number was what your YTD performance percent was on the last update.

There has been another merger of one of our stock picks: Carbon Black (CLBK) has been bought by VMware, Inc. (VMW) effective October 7.

This merger really hurt our contestant Zilla as CBLK was up 93.52% on our last update and VMW is only up 10.95% as of Friday. The result is Zilla's YTD performance fell considerably and dropped him out of the top 10 in our rankings all the way down to #45. (See Rule #6 in the OP of this thread.) That sucks. Sorry about that, Zilla.

Biggest improvement in ranking: LSUTOM07 who moved UP 11 places from #35 to #24.

Biggest drop in ranking: Zilla, as already explained above, falling 37 places dropping from #8 down to #45.

Best improvement in YTD performance percent this update: Vols&Shaft83, our #1 ranked player, who saw his YTD performance improve by an amazing +20.52% going from 54.91% to 75.43% thanks mainly to ROKU catching fire again since our last update.

Worst decline in YTD performance percent this update: Unfortunately, and more importantly unfairly, was Zilla as already explained above. His YTD performance declined -16.92% from 33.45% to 16.53%.

If someone can think of a way I can incorporate mergers correctly (and easily using a spreadsheet) into the subsequent YTD performance of a company, I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Twenty-one of our players saw their YTD performance decline since our last update and 35 saw improvement.

Two players have a negative YTD performance.

lol this is so fricking dumb The obvious better way to handle it is to just freeze the gain at the point of merger.

The point is not having to manually manage this. I’d say just do a manual fix at the end of the year rather than try to track this. I’m also ok with just assuming it’s sold and the money is frozen.

But what happens if the surviving company tanks after the merger?

What if, for example, WTRH gets bought. It's down over 94% YTD. But even if the acquiring company's stock really takes off after the buyout but poor FunronPete is locked in at a -94% loss for the year.

That would suck, too.

This may or may not affect me this year but the rules were set before the year started as I have CELG that is in the process of being acquired. I think we need to stay with the rule set up when contest started. If someone has a better idea should be implemented before the start of the next contest with the rules In place from the start.

Thanks. I agree with your comments but that doesn't mean it's fair to the players who happened to have one of their companies get bought out.

So far we've only had three of our original stock picks merged into a successor company. CELG would make it four if that merger is completed before the end of this year.

I've added an "Adjustments" tab to my spreadsheet for anyone's original stock picks that have been bought. I take the YTD % performance as of their date of merger and then I adjust it with the successor company's YTD performance since the date of the merger up to the most recent update date.

I've also included dividends paid by the successor company since the merger date in the adjustment.

I'd like to ask those players who have a company which got bought during the year to compute what they believe their YTD performance is for their successor company stocks and compare your results to the numbers that I came up with below.

So far the following mergers have occurred.

1. ynlvr's original pick First Data Corp (FDC) was merged into FISERV (FISV) on 7/29/2019.

As of 10/18/19 my computation shows the YTD % performance for the FDC/FISV combination is 65.51% as opposed to just the FISV YTD % of 43.79% shown in the update above.

2. Wade Phillips' original pick Total Systems Services (TSS) was merged into Global Payments, Inc. (GPN) as of 9/17/2019.

As of 10/18/19 my computation shows the YTD % performance for the TSS/GPN combination is 63.53% as opposed to just the GPN YTD % of 55.30% shown in the update above.

3. Zilla's original pick Carbon Black (CBLK) was merged into VMWare, Inc. (VMW) as of 10/7/2019.

As of 10/18/19 my computation shows the YTD % performance for the CBLK/VMW combination is 93.43% as opposed to just the VMW YTD % of 10.95% shown in the update above.

I have not gone back and inserted these numbers into the most recent update above.

I'm considering doing just that for the final update after the end of the year.

I think we should stand by your rules as set forth at of the beginning of the year.

Perhaps posting an asterisk (*) ranking for those of us who have benefited or suffered from an acquisition during the calendar year is a reasonable consolation.

Yes, I think this one-time calculation at year-end would be fair to the few involved in acquisitions. And then only as a one-off consolation prize or real time picture full year performance. Rules are rules.

On the other hand, It does not look like I will be in the running for the Free TD Premium membership so I'm not really a stickler on how this thing shakes out.

Below is a "Merger Adjusted" YTD performance update as of 10/18/19.

Three players have had one of their stocks merged into another company: ynlvr, Wade Phillips and Zilla. Their YTD performance will be different from the previous 10/18/19 update and, of course, it affects their ranking.

Now that I have a separate tab on my spreadsheet set up to make the merger adjustment all I have to do for each update is manually enter the closing price of each new merged company as of the update date.

The spreadsheet formulas do the rest including even transferring the merged company's YTD % into the V-Lookup table that I use to copy and paste from onto the TD.com page.

And since it's only three companies so far, it's no big deal.

The trickiest part is allowing for any dividend payment since the last update. But since only one of our three merged companies currently pays a dividend, that's not much trouble either.

I should have thought of it sooner....
