I started off my investing with Etrade in January. Suddenly they stopped letting me deposit money a few weeks ago (during a very intense time to trade). Tried calling and was stuck on hold for a long time and gave up. Looked into it and they were likely holding off on a fax of my SS card and drivers license, despite having previously taken a good chunk of money from me without that info. Read a bunch of reviews about Etrade having atrocious customer service.

Opened a Schwab account immediately after and deposited $3k with the intention of transferring my Etrade accounts to Schwab (which will cost ~$75). Unlike Etrade, Schwab has phenomenal customer service reviews. Played around with Schwab's investment program and it's definitely not set up as well as Etrade's. I'm only going to be making about a trade-per-month, so I'm willing to sacrifice the user interface for being able to put money into my account without having to send dick pics.

I won't necessarily recommend Schwab (though many will), but I would recommend avoiding eTrade.

Call Schwab, and they’ll waive that fee for you.
