No, won't trade for gold either.
You made the point for me.

Now, please respond to the 2 (of who knows how many) articles about people laundering using gold and cash.
DONT RUN!!

There’s no need to delve into your articles. Of course people have used the dollar for illicit purposes. They’ve used oil too.

Clearly though, these things have fsd sided uses. Bitcoin does not. Heck, you wouldn’t even use it to trade for something else- some currency that is…. Frown.
Bitcoin has been a favored currency for those involved in illicit activity. It might even be its most common usage.

And Are you trying to tell us that 2 wrongs make a right?

NO NO NO, the articles talk about GOLD you dunce.

Bro, no way in hell I'm giving someone food for gold if things go down so why would I trade food for BTC? Cash too.

Have a nice day

What if I feel like I need to move to another country tomorrow? How do you do that and take the majority of your fiat wealth with you? With bitcoin, you can move unimaginable wealth internationally on your person and not need anyone’s permission.

Bitcoin may turn out to by like the peacock/emu bubble from a few decades ago. People paid as much as $10K for breeding pairs. No one tried to sell them for meat, feathers, etc. because they wanted to just produce more offspring to sell as breeding pairs.

One day they took a breath, looked around, and realized that no one wanted the actual end product. Bubble burst.

I saw the ostrich thing as headed for disaster from the beginning. I'm not sure what to think about the future of crypto, but I'm going to stay out of it in any significant amount. Sitting on 0 right now.

Same story for everything new....you have to wait and see.

some people don't like change or new things, that's fine. (I do not believe it will be a "currency".. Never thought that)

But incase you haven't noticed, big firms are investing in crypto now. Likely at some point crypto there will be a suggested crypto % for your portfolio.

And what would you do with that bitcoin in another country?

If I moved to another country, (something I have actually done) I would simply convert my USD to the currency of the other country.

So you’re basically just a holder of bitcoin with absolutely no use for it but you still believe it has value….
And I’m the dumb one (frown)

I’ve had instances where I have traded gold, vehicles and other items for other things of value. It’s irregular but it can and does happen.
I’ve even traded a 65” television for some work done on a house. A carpenter saw the tv and explained that his wife would never allow him to buy one. I told him that I’d be happy to trade it for the carpentry work he was bidding. It was a great deal because it was only worth @$800 and the job he was doing would have cost me over $2,000. He could then go home and explain to his wife that he didn’t buy it-Value is relative…

I suspect you’re young and relatively inexperienced in investing. You can choose to remain closed minded to the perils of bitcoin or you can open your mind and listen to those that have been down some bumpy roads.

I hope you have good luck with bitcoin as I have. I don’t own any now but hope to jump back in after a correction in price (whatever that means) I’m putting a 20% drop as a fairly reasonable correction which would lure me back in.

While I would hope that you’d heed some of my advice or warning, I suspect you won’t. And there’s probably millions just like you. And that’s why I’m willing to trade on bitcoins support from the people that are blind believers in something that they have no use for. Markets can do crazy things when irrational people are willing to buy in.

Markets can remain irrational longer than a rational person can remain solvent.

I liked it more when it wasn’t so intertwined w wall st. If stocks melt down so will bitcoin, if stocks surge so will bitcoin. I don’t really see the difference in owning it vs a growth stock at this point re:expected returns.

Nothing, probably sell a bit to get local currency.

Have you ever done it during a hostile regime change?

I'm not saying these are imminent threats in the US but they certainly are in other countries and they could be some day in the US.

Decentralized crypto is monetary freedom.

Sell it to who?
Who’d be willing to buy something that could possibly lose 5% of its value in seconds in exchange for a stable currency?

I'll tell you what brother, the value of the dollar sure has gone up as much as BTC!

So the price we had, what, a couple months ago?

I’m starting to think you’re just trolling. What was the point of your TV story? People buy houses with bitcoin, don’t they?

——-

Never heard of anyone buying a house with bitcoin but I suppose it could be done with a willing buyer and seller. I would never accept it as payment tho. Would you?

I have owned and profited from bitcoin. It’s a fomo trade. I’ve posted that before.

The tv story is relevant to currency. I’ve used various things as a means of currency, including gold bars at one time. I don’t own any now. I have never used bitcoin as currency and never met anyone who has. It’s essentially irrelevant as a currency to me and I suspect to you as well. A tv has more value as a currency.

Why would I want the dollar to increase in value like bitcoin?
It’s a currency.
