Lol this is an overused phrase that is just so untrue.

I cna assure you people that don't know where their next meal or rent check is coming from aren't as happy as someone with a Lexus isn't of Mercedes.

You talk about your duck hunts and camp and time on the river. You aren't nearly as simple as you are claiming to be, you just make a shite load of money.

I know plenty of happy and unhappy rich and poor people. Money is only a part of the equation. Happy people typically will find ways to be happy in any situation. Unhappy people won’t. Unhappy people when poor are more woe is me. Unhappy rich people can’t ever be satisfied with what they have and always want more in a cycle of trying to center their happiness around their richness.

No man it’s true

People with “nothing” also never have to pay for anything. Free food, cell phones, electricity, even Amazon prime gives them a half off discount. And they don’t even have to work!

Then they aren't doing it right. El Gaucho is right. Food stamps, free money, cheap housing.

True. But we still tent camp public land, fish public waterways, and grew up hunting public land. Still will from time to time. Just takes more effort. And I built most of my shite. I like doing things old school sometimes. I spent a lot of time on my great grandparents farm. They lived of their chickens, pigs, dairy cow, garden in a house that was built by my great great grandfather in 1880's. Only upgrade was gas stove. No indoor plumbing or Heat/AC. And this was up until my grandmother passed in 1993. Spent a lot of summers there. That's pretty GD simple.

My main goal is the live like that again on a subsistence homestead. But with A/C and indoor plumbing. That's what I wanted when we built our house, but the wife watches too many movies and was afraid to be out in the boonies when I was at the hospital and gone several days in a row. She finally realized she'd be safer out there and is all in.

You seem angry? Steroids?

We managed to save even as students. Wife finished school first and we had a child. Her first year, we saved $15k on her 62k salary. You can save at any income level. It's not magic. It's called discipline and delayed gratification.

So what's your magic formula? Have any input other than brainless criticisms?

It's cool. We're here to help brother.

Im not angry at all. Saying your house is only 30% of your income, but your income is a million bucks is a little disingenuous. How many people, no matter how much work they put in can do that? Good on him and you for making a lot of money and saving most of it.

But that's like an MLB hitter just telling you to get in the box and hit it, it's not that hard. It's just not obtainable for most people no matter their dedication or drive.

And just an FYI, I do more than fine, but I also realize my situation is better than most people and don't act like it's not, seemingly unlike you.

Wow, I didn't realize this group has that much confidence in equities.

I worry about the required minimum distributions and taxes if I dont happen to ever need the 401.

For me retirement won't be sitting under a palm tree in Boca every day. I plan to dabble in work/investing as long as I can.

Idk man I don’t “save” a lot because a banks gonna give me 3 bucks a year on a million but if you spend all your time at work you don’t have any time to spend money and I could buy anything I want but I know that possessions are just more work

Like if I had a cool boat if there was some magic day where I wasn’t at work I could take some friends out and they’d leave beer cans everywhere and I’d pay for everything and babysit the boat and even if there were chicks I probably wouldn’t get laid because I’d be too busy with the boat. I have a boat that chicks won’t get on already and I never have time to use it so why get another boat

I don’t really worry about retirement either because I know that by the time I get that age they’ll just make you into dog food or whatever when you get weak. I think I’m probably really far ahead of my age group financially but money doesn’t buy happiness. I know nobody frowns on a jet ski but I don’t have time to go ride a jet ski or know anybody else with a jet ski and I think it’s kinda weird to go alone

Things aren’t getting better, only a lot worse. They only hit my generation with degeneracy like Britney Spears that made like more than half the chicks my age single moms. Wait til we see the long term effects of the gender confusion agenda

Seriously, has this guy ever contributed shite to the MB?
Hell, he's sporting the name of a child rapist. A male child!!!!

Why even chime in with that bullshite. If you want more detailed answers to how someone at lower income levels can achieve desirable results, ask that. I never said everyone could achieve what I have. But the way I did it can be duplicated to some degree by anyone. The biggest key is starting young, spend less than you make, save, and invest. "Invest" is vague, so then ask more specific details or for resources to read. That's what I did starting when I was a kid. Everyone's goals are different. Doesn't make one better or worse than another. But chiding and insulting successful, knowledgeable people giving answers to the question posted is not productive in the least.

So either contribute or GTFO. Don't like my posts? Don't read'em.

Truth. I'd rather my friends have that shite and take me than vice versa.

I've come to understand your unique vibe and dialect. Lots of truth behind the humor. But I see hope in many around my kids age and their peers. I was a child of Reagan and they are children of Trump. Patriotic, freedom loving, hard working, self responsible youths that expect to have to earn what they get, don't count on social security or other bailouts and have seen their parents walk the walk and not just talk the talk. The others won't be breeders. Unless they figure out how to inseminate a turd.

I gave my opinion, you are the only one name calling.

You claim to be a simple humble man, but you have a camp, a paid for house, spend time hunting and fishing. You are delusioned, you spend more money on tows and experience than most people make, and thats not a bad thing. You just have no self awareness.

I did, you just didn't agree with it so you got your panties in a wad and started name calling and posting like a butthurt teenage girl.

Money is necessary for basic happiness, for sure. From there, I think there is a cap much lower than most believe there to be.

I do not think the relationship between happiness and money (and vice versa) is linear. Many smart people have shown this.

However, after said cap, I think there is more of a linear relationship between money and anti depressants! Kidding...

Kind of...Have seen too many folks who put money at the center of their lives/being turn live train wreck lives.
Getting preachy and don't mean to.

I think the magic answer is "enough". If one cannot find enough, they will find anti depressants.

Maybe I had more to drink last night than I recall. I don't disagree with anything you said except the delusions and lack of self awareness.

My point was I was comfortable taking more risks due to the fact that I have been with and without. After "living the life" I can't say I was any happier past a certain point than when we had much less. I really enjoy the nicer things in life, but I get equal enjoyment out of things that aren't expensive.

After review, I did leave out the part where I meant to add once your basic needs are met. Food, housing, medical insurance, and an emergency fund. But you don't need expensive food or housing to be happy. Maybe I took your response the wrong way. We may be more on the same page than I first thought. And I didn't intend to imply that I thought anyone could achieve the same as me in the same time frame if they just work hard enough. I did throw in that there was some luck involved. I'm a little ADD. Sometimes I start to make a certain point and end up way the hell off course 4 paragraphs later.

Upvote. I would like to change my answer to this.

But how much is "frick you" money exactly? $5million? $10million? My number keeps going up as I want to be able to say that to more and more people, organizations, businesses, counties, states, countries. Maybe it'd be easier to be more passive and willing to put up with some shite.

We gonna be like china where there's like 50 million young dudes with no chicks to get married with except we won't have an africa to send them to

I already feel like one of those guys. become a stepdad or settle down with a cool wine aunt career woman that looks 10 years older than I do. That's why my age cutoff is 25

I'm still kinda mad that somebody said you had the greatest single pick on here when I was trying to get them into gamestop at 8 bucks a share back in like november and they all made fun of me

I'm still the greatest. Mine's still running and everybody wins.

Gonna be worse when guys like me snap up all the sugar babies that can't provide for themselves. I'll try and stick to the age/2+7 rule.
