Shite no, drive it for the next 3-5 years. Buy a house before you buy a car. I'm living at my parents for a few months to help save money for a house currently. Hopefully within the next year and half it will happen.

What you said above is contradictory to what you said below

nothing wrong with living with your parents for a year or two to save money for a house, right?

So, do you want a house or a car? or both? Figure out what you want, then set goals and accomplish those goals.

If you're wise, you won't buy a car in the next three years.
If you're really wise, the idea of buying a "brand new" car should be unfathomable to you for the next ten to fifteen years. Two kinds of people buy brand new cars. Those that have plenty of money, and those that spend $700 to $900 per month to pretend that they have money (while it cripples their cash flow).

This board is so ridiculous sometimes. You're aware there are new cars that don't cost $50k plus, right?

Yeah, I want a 30k Subaru badly, but I will continue to show restraint. It's not a good decision. I'd like to spend as little as possible on vehicles throughout my life.

I'm mainly referring to the plant hands and their eighty thousand dollar trucks.

And more hyperbole. $80k trucks don't exist, at least they didn't until this year.

And this is just what works for you. It doesn't make other people's decisions stupid just because you wouldn't do it.

So you live with your parents and drive a Versa? Damn, thats pretty bad.

I wouldnt give up the Versa to start paying a note on a Sonata though.

I think most would agree that spending as little on vehicles as possible is advisable for 90 percent of the population. Why spend A LOT of money on something that will eventually be worth zero? How does that ever make sense?

See, you think your opinion is the majority. I don't agree with you.

You obviously enjoy cars. We're different people. Cool.

I don't think the OP enjoys cars...he wants a Sonata instead of a Versa. I think he would enjoy getting out of his parents house in the next three years. Buying a car will only work against that goal.

edit: One of my favorite hobbies is investing. Cars are anti-investments (there are obviously a few exceptions).

i am about as cheap as you can get, and I disagree with this. If you are going to spend untold hours in a car, get something you are comfortable in. Then drive it until it doesn't make financial sense. And buying new is sometimes worth it.

I am still rocking my 2002 subaru, and will until the wheels fall off. We will likely trade in our 2013 nissan altima in 2018 when the extended warranty ends, and buy a small SUV. Hopefully my subaru will last until then, and we are retired and only need one car.

to OP, don't buy this car drive your versa until you need a new(to you) vehicle.

You'll notice I didn't tell him to buy the car.

But that's not the point.

Don't get me wrong. I plan to buy a Subaru in the next five years and I'm going to love everything about it...but I'll probably be buying a 3-5 year old model for $15k instead of the new model for $30+

LNCHBOX: Sorry to have caused you to waste your 70,000th post. We can agree to disagree. I'm sure your financial lot is far better than mine, which is why I'm ok with my 2010 model Ford Fusion with 132k miles

Edit: I'm dumb, but he's really bitter.

If you're going to do the condescending financial situation bit, you may at least try to get the post number correct next time.

what is crazy is the last time I looked the BB value on my subaru was $4k. They hold their resale value very well, at least in colorado.

I generally agree with buying used, but we bought our altima new b.c we the depreciation on a 3 year car at the time was negligible compared to the miles put on them.
