United MPX app should work as well. Could buy Amazon GCs there. More cash like IMO. Only time you should need SW $ is to pay tax on caribbean flights

Applied for CSR and was instantly approved. What an easy way to go to Europe for almost free
Posted on 8/29/16 at 10:50 pm to Old Sarge
Got turned down for CSR. 6 fig income, 740+ score. Reason- i opened 5 cards last month. Too many new cards they told me.
Any ideas around this? Waiting to again?

Welcome to the post-apocalyptic world of 5/24. You are not alone.

I haven't even tried, but I want to so bad
Think I'm gonna coach my wife to call the recon and see if she's not getting it because of 5/24. If so then I know I don't need to hit my credit. Sitting in NOLA right now after only spending 50k UR points for 2 tix from your advice and now I just want to hog up UR.

Haha I know the feeling! How long you here for? Were you able to tack on an extra leg?
If your wife is anything like my gf, she'll hate it and want to not be a part of any of this if they have to make these calls. Fortunately, you can call in, have her verify herself then (she) tell them that you are the financial decision maker so you'll be the one talking from then on.

Saw an article mentioning it's worth a shot to stop into a Chase branch and ask which cards you are pre approved for to get around the 5/24 rule.

Simple. There are over 900 priority pass lounges compared to 5 Centurion Lounges. And you can bring unlimited guests to Priority Pass lounges with CSR. You'd pay $30 for each guest at Centurion or any other lounge with Plat
Amex plat. guests get in free at Centurion lounges with the platinum. I am genuinely curious what airports you have used a priority pass lounge at. There are none in Louisiana so our LA brethren are screwed and the airports I frequent the lounges are extremely inaccessible. Amex plat users would at least get access to the skyclub at MSY. If you are flying first class, you are going to get lounge access anyways for that airline so I don't view that as an added benefit.

If you know how to work the e-certs, sure you can get it down to $250. But not everyone knows how to do this. And sooner or later, that loophole is going to be closed as well.
quote:
Simply put, and I reiterate, if your sole purpose is to subsidize travel or travel for free, AmEx plat is not a card you should have.
This I agree with but the amex plat is very valuable for the FREQUENT traveler, not the 3 free trips a year traveler.

You're right about lounge access. You can bring up to 2 guests. Fine. But again, it doesn't change the fact that there are a lot less centurion lounges in existence. Like I said earlier, I've visited DFW, MIA and LAS. More of a headache really. MIA is the most crowded of all. DFW lounge location sucks + it is extremely crowded. Admirals Club in ALL of those locations is much nicer. Peaceful for sure but also classier in my opinion. Also, Admirals club locations, more often than not, tend to be at better locations than Centurion lounges. Usually airside, with some exceptions. This is personal preference, though. I love watching planes.
I sense a tone of condescension here for some reason, but I will look past that. You are truly out of touch with this space if you are not skeptical about these loopholes closing. AmEx in particular. They clawed back 100K bonus from people who MSd on the platinum card. For as long as I have known AmEx to be in existence, this has never happened. But it did now. Serve/BlueBird shut down and the actual quoted reason was "manufactured spending." No more pro-rated refunds on the $450 AF. All within a few months. What does that tell you? And I would like for you to research and tell me how many people actually know how to monetize this $200 credit. If you are not constantly in touch with this "hobby" so to speak, there is no way you know about things like UA MPX, Registry or SW GC.
It is not valuable for 99% of travelers. You want to justify it with SkyClub and Centurion access and useless fringe benefits such as Hilton gold and Hertz gold, feel free. Add in emergency roadside assistance, restuarant reservations blah blah as well. Because why not? Like I said earlier - this card is all talk, no content. And when it comes down to monetary value, none of these benefits are appealing. If you are reading this thread, that is what you are interested in. Getting the most bang for your buck. Not pay $450 cash for benefits you didn't even know existed, when cash is king.
Also, let me also tell you, I, personally do more than "3 free trips" a year. And that is just for leisure. Then there is work. And I fly out of MSY which only has SkyClub. I still think this is useless product, in light of its competition.

I don't even want to respond to this... the loophole has been going on for what 5+ years... it is closing any day now tho!! when it closes, I will change my view of the card

Can you confirm that app codes it for travel? The SW gift card idea is great, but for amazon gift cards, that would be even better.

Confirmed. I did $600 this year. Plat x 2, PRG x 2. $100 each transaction.

I'm not going to clog up the board getting in a pissing match I am just responding to some of your comments that were downright wrong and your choice to shite on the card while ignoring a lot of the benefits.
I just think it is ironic that you are calling most of the plat benefits useless and then championing the priority pass select perk from the CSR... which is by and far useless especially for everyone in LA.

Got here Thursday night and leave this coming Friday. Didn't have time to add on this time.

I thought about that so glad to hear I can. Yeah, she doesn't want to deal with it.

Pissing match. Strange choice of words.
"Wrong" for you. But accurate for someone that cares enough about points/miles to know/read this thread. There is a reason you will never find a person who is points/miles sensitive and uses has a Platinum for year 2. There is a reason why this was my 28th card give or take. Because there are 27 cards better/more useful than AmEx Plat.
Not just PP. PP is extremely useful when travelling to most airports around the world. Plat is useful for like 7. And the CSR comes with actually useful benefits such as 3x points (compared to 1x on plat). Not going to get into how also UR are wayyy more valuable than MR. $300 head-ache free travel reimbursement, compared to $200 through a loophole, the ability to leverage already existing UR.
Again - for most people this is a either this or that scenario. And there are at least 27 other cards that win that battle before AmEx Plat. Even then only with the 100K bonus.
Quick math for you: If you spend $10K on Travel and Dining a year, you could just outright buy lounge membership with the incremental savings through points. Most people who must have a travel card this expensive spend way more than that a year on travel and dining.
I'm not in this hobby just to break even. I'm in to come out way ahead. And my tone regarding CCs will always reflect that.

Card comparisons
This is one of the best breakdowns I've seen. Of course, everyone's travels are different, but from a points/rewards standpoint, CSR/ UR program is GOAT.

I have never said the CSR isn't a great card
I am just saying that plat also has its place in certain people's wallets and i don't know if its fair to just call it "shite"

Although I didn't quite say that myself, I would be hard pressed to find a better word for this card (for 99% of the population). The other 1% don't care enough to realize.
