Will accepting the upgrade affect history on that card, or does it just rollover. The email says there is no credit pull or anything.
Correct. And yes - it will count as the same account. No harm in upgrading whatsoever.

Are there any cards that offer good grocery rewards and also include walmart?
None that I can think of, unfortunately. Target and Walmart count as discount warehouse stores. Your best option is the Chase Freedom Unlimited which gives you unlimited 1.5x cashback on all purchases. Or Discover It Miles, which will give you 1.5x on all purchases and will double all cashback earned in the first year. (Including shopping through shop discover portal). Discover it will give you 2% for the first year on all purchases and 10% on Amazon for half the year (for the first year, since cb will be doubled). I have a referral for this one that gives you back $50 after spending $500 in the first year. If you cant find a better offer, I can send you the referral for this one.

it's been well over a year since I've applied for any credit cards. Any offers I've gotten in the mail have been shredded. I decided to look at one recently from Hilton and it's the Citi HHonors card with 75,000 points after 2k spend in 3 months with no annual fee. I'll probably pull the trigger on that one

Ok, but that is what is called a "sock drawer card". No long term gain from it past the sign up bonus. Which in itself is just alright.

This card is the biggest pile of poop after that sign-up bonus

This is why I love my Fidelity Visa. 2% cash back unlimited and it goes right into your brokerage account. Then, you can just withdraw to your bank account if you want.

Ahh true. Forgot about the straight 2% cashbacks on Fidelity Visa and Citi Double Cash Back. I like 1.5x on Freedom Unlimited better because they are essentially UR for me, but may not be true for everyone + comes with a sign up bonus.

Good point. Yeah I'm sure the 1.5X on Chase Freedom for you ends up being "worth" 3X when transferred to a partner.

Oh I'm well aware of that. Gonna just it for the bonus and stow it away. I have the Arrival as my main card currently

If you value Hilton so much, then why don't you just get the Citi Reserve card that comes with 2 free nights at any hotel + 1 free night every year. Also comes with Hilton Gold and Diamond status after 40K spend in a year. Well worth the $95 AF.

Just wanted to let you know that in the future I'm interested in participating in your travel blog. Right now I'm focused on expanding my business and it's consuming most of my time.

I always see you posting about your business. What type of business do you own?

Datapoint...I just called retention for my Citi Hilton Reserve and was offered to have the annual fee amount credited back to my card after $3K spend in next three months.
I think I'm now going to apply for another Reserve shortly and get the two free nights as I have had this card since beginning of 2014. (Gonna keep current version open)

Btw - I was recently denied for a Barclay Arrival+. No amount of HUCA got me in. They just wouldn't budge. Got the letter too. "Too many new accounts". (Have 8 new in 3.5 months)
My first denial. Really has got me to sit back and take a deep breath and gain perspective...not
Just disappointed really. Freaking Barclay

It must be a full-time job keeping up with all those cards sometimes.

I just got approved, it told me 1k spend, which is no problem. 2k will be a little tougher but I'll do it for the bonus.

Can you explain this? It looks enticing because of high point values but I know they aren't worth much.
What card do you recommend for everyday spending? I use CapitalOne mostly, I like the cash back.
Already have 55,000 points saved on CapitalOne venture, waiting to take a trip until I can get a little time off at work. But that should cover my flight.
And maybe HHilton will cover hotel.

What kind of benefits are you looking to get? Travel? Cash back? Where do you want to go? Where do you usually spend most of your money? How many CCs you want to go for?
Just this page itself has some good info that may be helpful for the non frequent traveler or someone who is not trying to redeem points for travel (but it looks like you are).

Well, I've always gone for cash back, liked seeing money come straight off the bill. But then I got Southwest's card and met the spend and was able to get 2 free round-trip flights to Orlando, so the travel rewards really started appealing to me. I guess overall I prefer travel because it seems like these rewards are worth more, dollar-wise, typically than flat cash back.

Where do you want to go?
Really want to visit NYC. On down the line, would like to see Vegas again, DisneyWorld..Hawaii is a dream trip, but I know I'll never pull that off with reward points.

Where do you usually spend most of your money?
I use CC to pay all of my monthly bills that I can. Gas, groceries, Verizon (talk about worthless points, 66,000 points on their site and can't do shite with them), utilities, car insurance (pay $500 every 6 months). So typically I spend about $500 a month on cards. I buy gift cards at WalMart or Target (since I get groceries there) if I'm in a crunch to meet a spend.
quote:
How many CCs you want to go for?
Biggest thing for me, since I don't spend as much as many others, is meeting the spend. So I won't be able to go for another one for a few months. I don't care about having a lot of open accounts or cards, credit score is over 800 and I'm not looking to make any major purchases anytime soon.
Currently I have Discover, Capital One, and now this Hilton AEX. I'll be canceling Capital One Venture once I cash in those points on a trip, because it has a $95 annual fee. If I transfer to a no fee card, I'll lose the points. But I won't have time off for a trip before the fee hits next month. Points lose half their value if I redeem for cash, so that's over a $200 loss.
Thank you so much for any insights you can offer! I'm trying to read back over the thread, and I found thepointsguy.com site, which seems to have good info.
