This is what booking multiple flights in one day by various means gets you.

I'm just glad my stupidity didn't cost me my whole day.

And just to check my first card will be Chase freedom unlimited with plans of building credit and getting CSP. Solid plan?

Sounds good.

is there a negative to staying in the same account?

Liability of being financially connected if a lawsuit ever comes any of y'alls ways. I'd break that little bad idea up. Chase Quickpay is easy to transfer money as well.

#1 - You can get $350 for opening a new checking account with Chase and making 1 direct deposit
#2 - You can still easily transfer money back and forth with chase quick pay

Other than that, not many negative or positives that I can think of being connected with your mom.

And yes, thats a good plan re: Credit Cards.

Also I think all of your questions are already answered in this thread itself. Just get some coffee whenever you have a couple of hours and go back and read a few pages. I wish we could just have a sticky with the basic things that keep coming up again and again and the answers just keep crowding the thread really. Almost 6,200 posts. There has got to be a better way for doing this.

AmeriKop and/or Teddy or whomever,

Do you all have a house? A few of my 24 month purgatories are coming up for bonuses (in other words, I can reapply for SW, American and a few others soon), but I also anticipate purchasing a home 2 years from now. I have read on some forums that you may want to cease the churning game as your mortgage start date comes closer, but I wanted to know if you all had a more specific timeline. As an FYI, My two oldest cards are 2011, and then I have several that are still open (with no annual fee) that were opened from 2012-2016.

LINK
I just bought a house. I stopped applying about 6 months before submitting application for loan. My extensive credit card collection was never brought up.

Ya, that was a nice article.

To answer your question, I did have a house, but I'm selling it right this minute.

I am looking into real estate here later this year, so I have stopped applications for now.

It's ok Teddy. We all make mistakes.

I hope the move to Austin went/is going well.

Wife is liking her new gig so far.

My employer hasn't transferred my workload back over to me quite yet, AND I'm breaking in a new assistant, so I basically get paid to be on TD all day.

Y'all are cool and all but I'm getting pretty bored.

I really should just start my gym membership now. I can workout all day and become a bodybuilder, but instead, I'll eat chips and dip.

The Louisiana Crawfish festival is tomorrow, brass bands form New Orleans and all you can eat crawfish, its like I never left!

I bought a condo last year and had gotten a card 4 months before buying it. I am looking at buying another investment property now and at the same time I want to get this 50,000 Hawaiian miles offer that expires 4/30

What kind of gas cards can you get? I never see them at OD.

They had Shell. I guess they were out of high dollar ones but I bought 10 $50 cards. Tonight I went there and bought two $500 Amazon cards for my home theater I am putting together. So that's an easy 7,500 pernts. But I like AK's idea as well with eBay. I wish they had Chevron as that's what I see and use the most here. Shell and 76 are a couple places not far away.

This thread peaked my interest in what rewards my credit cards offer and what I would be best using each one for.

Is there a list anywhere on this forum of what card is best used for a certain type of purchase such as....

Chase Slate: restaurants, movies, etc.
Chase Ink: office supplies

I looked through the Money Talk Guide thread and didn't see anything like this.

There is. I'm on my phone so won't go in to detail but I'll respond shortly if nobody else does. Best thing you can do is provide a monthly allocation on how much and where you primarily spend money.

Amerikop was right. We need a wiki like update thing on page 1. Maybe we can provide Houstontiger with something similar to put on there and he can update it.

I will try:

Groceries: Amex Blue, or Amex Blue cash preferred (depending on spend amount)

Restaurants: Chase Saphirre Preferred, or any 2% cash back card such such Fidelity Visa, or Citi double cash back. Or, use Raise to get gift cards to common places at a discount, and use one of these same 2% cash back cards.

Gas: Amex Blue or Amex Blue preferred, depending on spend. OR, purchase gas cards on eBay using Chase Business Ink and get 5% for it being coded as an office supply

Any other purchases: Chase Freedom rotating categories at 5* points, Discover rotating 5% categories, or 2% cash back card, or CSP depending on your preference

Balance Transfer: Chase Slate

Cards to buy and hold forever due to anniversary gift outweighing annual Fee: Chase Hyatt and IHG Visa

Cards with great signup bonuses that haven't been mentioned that you should get and then cancel if you are into churning: SW Visa, SW Business, SPG rewards, Marriott Rewards, Hilton Hhonors, Citi AAvantage, etc.

Some will have edits to this but figured I would start

Kill Switch:

LSUtoOmaha's list is pretty comprehensive. However, which credit card largely depends on your personal statistics and goals as well. For ex: What do you usually spend the most on? How many cards are you comfortable with getting? What are your goals? Do you just want cash back or do you want to redeem points for nights and flights?

Btw - anything sold my PayPal Digital Gifts on eBay will give you 5x on purchases. They sell eBay GCs too And gas/and other store GCs can be bought with eBay GCs. So: Click through a portal like splendor to get to eBay to get 3% back on purchases. Buy eBay GCs from PP digital gifts (5x points on Ink). Then click through portal again to buy discounted store GCs for another 3% cb through portal + eBay bucks (they often run promos upto 10% back in eBay bucks multiple times a month)

Another way to buy eBay GCs is to buy them at places like raise.com or giftcardgranny.com. Buying from Cardcash.com codes as 5x on Ink. So if you are buying on Cardcash, then anything above 3% discount on eBay GCs makes this a better way to.

I'm looking for a good cash back credit card for groceries. I was going to apply for Amex Blue, but noticed it doesnt include WalMart in the grocery category, and unfortunately this is where I do most of my grocery shopping. Are there any cards that offer good grocery rewards and also include walmart?

I also spend a good bit on amazon and I see that Discover has extra rewards for amazon in their rotating categories

I got an email offering to "upgrade" my old capitol one card to the quicksilver. The card currently has no benefit except that it is my oldest card. Will accepting the upgrade affect history on that card, or does it just rollover. The email says there is no credit pull or anything.
